Software Engineer - OpenShift Autoscaling

OpenShift Container Platform is Red Hat’s premier container initiative which oversees multiple product lines. It includes a container optimized Linux based operating system called Red Hat CoreOS and an orchestration PaaS framework called OpenShift based on Kubernetes. 

The OpenShift Autoscaling Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us in Brno, Czech Republic. In this role, you will work as part of a team building the next-generation installation and management technology for the Red Hat OpenShift and CoreOS offerings. You’ll be a key member of our OpenShift team and focus on building world-class technologies demonstrating Red Hat’s thought and market leadership in hybrid cloud, system engineering, and Kubernetes management. As a software engineer, you will be expected to work in an Agile environment to help keep our products and services competitive with the ever changing landscape that is containers. We’re looking for engineers who are interested in working on OpenShift, Kubernetes, operating systems, continuous integration, and more.

What you will do

  • Design and build scalable, distributed solutions that enable Red Hat customers to be productive and efficient

  • Engage with open source communities to build consensus on goals in shared projects and implement features to achieve those goals

  • Investigate, communicate, and troubleshoot escalated issues coming from the support team

  • Collaborate with team members to determine the root cause of problems and the best course of action to resolve problems and avoid them in the future

  • Constantly learn new things and maintain an overview of current technologies

  • Take training and get to know cloud providers deeply

What you will bring

  • Programming skills in Python or Go

  • Knowledge of at least one big cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc)

  • Experience in container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift

  • Solid experience with cloud computing, distributed web technologies, high availability, load balancing, failover, monitoring and alerting, shell scripting, CI/CD and build tools

  • Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required

  • Knowledge of Git, GitHub, JIRA, Jenkins, etcd, Prow, and Prometheus is a plus

  • Record of contributing to open source projects is a plus

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English to handle or drive discussions in a distributed team
