About the job:

The Red Hat Ansible Engineering team (https://www.ansible.com/) is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) in India. If you are a highly motivated professional who wants to work with a high performing team to deliver a high quality user experience for our customers then please read on.
As an SRE in the Ansible organization, you will be working across geos with technical team members to analyze, design, develop, debug, and deliver new products and feature functionality for the Ansible offerings. You will get an opportunity to collaborate with diverse agile teams around the world to deliver value for our customers and partners in an open source way. This is also a great opportunity to hone your skills while working with a wide range of modern languages, frameworks, and technologies. You will also become a part of Red Hat’s culture, which makes us unique in the industry. You will work with communities (f.e. https://www.ansible.com/community) passionate about open source software. What will you do?

  • Contribute code to increase the scalability and reliability of the service

  • Contribute software tests and participate in peer review to increase the quality of our codebase

  • Help and develop peers’ capabilities through knowledge sharing, mentoring, and collaboration

  • Participate in a regular on-call schedule, including occasional paid weekends and holidays

  • Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems

  • Resolve customer issues escalated from the Red Hat Global Support team

  • Work within a small agile team to develop and improve SRE software, support your peers, plan and self-improve

What will you bring?

  • Passion for learning new technologies, building elegant software systems, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and automation.

  • Basic knowledge of software development life cycle tools, like GitHub and Jenkins.

  • Software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile or scrum processes

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience using object-oriented languages; Python or Golang a plus

  • 3+ years experience managing Linux-based systems in a public cloud such as AWS, GCP, or Azure

  • 1+ year experience with Kubernetes

  • 1+ year experience with containers on Linux

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately troubleshoot systems issues

  • Solid understanding of standard TCP/IP networking and common protocols like DNS and HTTP

  • Excellent communications skills in a global team environment

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

The following are considered a plus:

  • Writing Ansible playbooks and administering the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform

  • Familiarity with observability platforms (such as Dynatrace, DataDog, etc)

  • Cloud native development/administration experience 

  • Prior experience working on a globally distributed, remote team

  • Practical application of Generative AI/LLMs (e.g., for code generation, playbook drafting, or log summarization) to enhance daily SRE productivity
