Shaft & Hoists Maintenance Planner
Where will you work: Onsite – Onsite Colonsay, Saskatchewan
(The job location is at our mine site, situated 65 kilometers (approximately a 45-minute drive) from the city of Saskatoon)
About the role
The Shaft & Hoists Maintenance Planner is a key technical resource responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of shaft infrastructure, hoisting systems, ore delivery, operating supply movements and ventilation systems that support underground mining operations. This role provides strategic planning, coordination, and technical oversight for a multidisciplinary maintenance team to support safe, efficient, and reliable mine operations.
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and organized Shaft Maintenance Planner to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and scheduling maintenance, repair, and operational activities associated with shaft facilities.
The Shaft Maintenance Planner will ensure all work is planned and scheduled to be executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, while supporting the safe and reliable operation of underground mining infrastructure.
What will you do?
Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
Develop and maintain preventive and corrective maintenance plans for shaft infrastructure, hoisting systems, mine ventilation systems, and dewatering systems.
Coordinate daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance plans to minimize downtime and support production goals.
Ensure availability of required spare parts, tools, and labor for scheduled tasks. This may include sourcing, procuring and expediting materials outside of stock.
Liaise with warehouse and procurement teams to align inventory with maintenance needs.
Shutdown Coordination
Plan and coordinate multi discipline maintenance activities during scheduled shutdowns or outages.
Develop detailed work schedules, labor forecasts, and material plans to ensure safe and efficient execution.
Work Order Management
Create, manage, and prioritize work orders using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). SAP
Ensure work orders include clear job scopes, required materials, accurate labor estimates, and defined safety procedures.
Technical Documentation
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work histories, technical documentation, schematics, and equipment manuals.
Support root cause failure analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all planned work complies with applicable safety standards, site-specific programs and procedures, and manufacturer recommendations.
Promote a strong safety culture through the application of safe work practices.
Participate in audits, inspections, and continuous safety improvement initiatives.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with shaft technicians, supervisors, and operations teams to align maintenance activities with operational and production schedules.
Provide technical guidance and planning support to technicians during the execution of complex or high-risk maintenance activities.
What you’ll need:
Demonstrated commitment to safety, with working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety and Mines Regulations.
3+ years’ experience in a planning or coordination role within the mining industry.
Bachelor’s Degree, Technical Diploma or Journeyperson (Red Seal) certification in a related trade or equivalent combination of education and experience.
In-depth knowledge of mine shaft systems and equipment, and associated maintenance practices is considered and asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CMMS platforms, including SAP/S4HANA.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and demonstrate leadership when required.
