The Senior UX Researcher is responsible for leading and delivering hands-on user research and user testing activities to enable excellent user experiences (UXs) for Elekta’s hardware and software products.  This includes running usability testing for regulated medical devices and contributing to usability documentation, as part of the regulatory submission and approval process.

Reporting to the Manager, UX Research, this role will collaborate closely with other UX Researchers and other UX&D teams - UX Strategy & Design, Industrial Design, UX Development - as well as stakeholders in Product Management and Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and delivers hands-on UX research and usability testing activities to ensure an excellent user experience for Elekta hardware and software products.

  • Defines usability strategy to meet program objectives and usability compliance. Works with Regulatory Affairs to align usability strategy with regulatory submission strategies.

  • Leads the planning, timing, scoping, and execution of UX research activities to meet product and business needs and release timelines.

  • Independently plans, conducts and documents contextual studies, interviews, surveys, task and use error analyses, user reviews, heuristic evaluations, and usability testing. Plans, facilitates and reports study results and workshop outcomes.  Balances the right activities with the available resources, to meet business objectives.

  • Networks and collaborates with different disciplines, including delivery leads, system engineers / systems architects, product managers and clinical experts, managing positive relationships with them.

  • Acts as the subject matter expert on usability engineering within the product release team, attending meetings and reviewing and approving documents.

  • Anticipates risks early and escalates issues when necessary. Adapts to challenging situations and changing priorities.

  • Looks for improving ways of working in UX research and usability processes.

  • Actively communicates the business value of UX activities in all interactions.

  • Manages subcontracted agencies for usability testing, including participant recruitment. May create RfQs and review agency proposals.

  • Participates in Agile ceremonies and PI-planning. Clearly communicates their plans, dependencies to other disciplines, and identified risks. Proficient in planning their capacity and what they can commit to in the next PI.

  • Reviews the deliverables of other UX professionals. Provides feedback and coaches more junior team members.

What You'll Bring:

  • Master’s degree in human factors engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, experimental psychology, User-Centred Design, or equivalent learning/training.

  • Knowledge base acquired from 4+ years of experience as an individual contributor in human factors, usability, or UX research.

  • Experience working in human factors/ usability engineering of regulated medical devices

  • Proficiency in different UX research methods such as contextual studies, interviews, surveys, task and use error analyses, user reviews, heuristic evaluations, and usability testing. Ability to choose the appropriate method(s) in different contexts.

  • Good understanding of medical device regulations and compliance. Good knowledge of usability engineering and risk management standards and guidelines (e.g. IEC 62366, FDA HF guidelines, ISO 14971).

  • Comfortable with continuous learning and working with detailed clinical knowledge.

  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment. Ability to adapt and remain curious and receptive to ideas and perspectives of others.

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and common workshopping tools (like Miro, FigJam, LucidChart).

  • Good understanding of agile principles and agile product development practices (Scrum, Kanban). Knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and PI-planning practices is preferred but not essential.
