Senior User Experience (UX) Designer

In-Scope

Permanent Full-Time

Location: Regina Head Office or Saskatoon Central Claims

Pay Range: $75,691.00 - $95,521.00

Closes: March 19, 2026

Work Location: This role is eligible for hybrid – this means you’ll have the flexibility of working from home and in the office, on a scheduled rotation once probation requirements have been met. Until then, the successful incumbents will be expected to work on-site, full-time.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and working with product teams to implement SGI’s product experiences that meet the needs of both the user and the business. In this role you will mentor other UX Designers at SGI and lead design initiatives on SGI IT projects to coordinate a holistic experience across digital applications. You will perform user research, planning, design conceptualization, and user testing, and present comprehensive design solutions to the organization. You will also act as an advocate for user needs and user experience, harmonizing them with the overarching business goals.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Design Guidance and Advocacy

  • Provides mentorship and guidance to UX Designers within the team, including reviewing quality of work and providing technical guidance on more complex work in the department.

  • Advocates for human-centric design.

  • Advocates for the use of SGI’s design system, contributes to the design library, and participates in code library discussions.

  • Advises on, creates, and maintains design standards.

  • Understands, documents, and provides technical guidance on user experience and UX design best practices.

  • Presents proposed solutions to leadership and articulates the business value.

  • Works with UX Team Lead and management to refine and improve design operations at SGI.

  • Contributes to buy, build, or partner strategy on SGI design related tools.

  • Reviews and approves the wireframes, mockups, and other design artifacts of others.

Conceptual Design

  • Innovatively designs user interfaces with a focus on usability, accessibility, and scalability.

  • Develops comprehensive process and user flows for applications and websites.

  • Articulates the design rationale behind proposed solutions and adeptly interprets user and business requirements for project stakeholders.

  • Solves complex design problems in simple and intuitive ways utilizing SGI’s brand personality, visuals, motion, and sound.

  • Produces design artifacts like diagrams, storyboards, flows, wireframes, prototypes, and vision pieces.

  • Builds design components for the SGI design system.

  • Designs holistic user flows across digital applications.

  • Consults with end users and internal stakeholders on conceptual designs.

  • Identifies and troubleshoots UX problems. 

  • Creates and maintains UX assets for UX Design team.

  • Contributes to design team efforts such as planning, organizing, and running idea sessions; producing mood-boards and presentations; storyboarding; brainstorming; building user scenarios; and developing concept sketches.

  • Creates highly polished mockups, interactive prototypes, and other communication artifacts.

Research and Testing

  • Collaborates with stakeholders and UX Team Leads to help determine business, design, and technical requirements.

  • Provides assessment and details for future planning and large-scale projects.

  • Researches best practices in usability and human computer interactions.

  • Collaborates with Designers and Developers to create intuitive, user-friendly software.

  • Assesses data from multiple sources (e.g., UX research, SEO [search engine optimization], product requirements, tech constraints, analytics) and synthesizes it to develop efficient user scenarios, taxonomies, navigation systems, design patterns, etc.

  • Stays current on emerging trends in user-centered methodologies, accessibility, UI design patterns, usability principles, and web technologies.

  • Works collaboratively with User Experience, Digital Customer Experience and Strategic Customer Marketing teams and act as an advocate for the user.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

  • Advanced knowledge of user experience design methods (design thinking, user research, information architecture, user interface design, interaction design, and user testing). 

  • Advanced knowledge of design systems. 

  • Advanced knowledge of visual design and communication principles. 

  • Proficient knowledge of design programs and tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Mac OS, prototyping tools). 

  • Proficient knowledge of accessibility design. 

  • Fundamental knowledge of agile development or product management practices. 

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS 

  • Four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study, such as Business, Social Sciences, or Information Technology, or defined equivalency. 

  • Certification in UX design.

  • Certification in design thinking. 

EXPERIENCE  

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in user experience, interaction design, or digital media design.
