Job Summary
The Senior Technical Lead (Australia) is the most senior technical individual within the Australian business. This role provides high-level technical leadership and oversight across all service lines, ensuring excellence, consistency, and compliance in project delivery.
The Senior Technical Lead is expected to maintain approximately 80% billable utilisation through leadership of their own client project(s), while dedicating approximately 20% of their time to supporting the Country Manager in strategic, technical, commercial and capability development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Oversight & Governance
- Serve as the highest technical person within the Australian business.
- Provide high-level oversight across all active projects to ensure technical quality and consistency of delivery.
- Act as final escalation point for complex technical or delivery challenges.
- Ensure alignment with CAI global standards and quality systems.
- Drive continuous improvement in technical execution and methodologies
- Project Leadership
- Lead and deliver client project(s) as Project Lead, Technical Lead or senior subject matter expert.
- Maintain strong client relationships and serve as trusted advisor.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within scope and to the highest quality standards.
- Identify and support growth opportunities within varies accounts.
- Strategic, Proposal & Business Development Support
- Partner with the Country Manager to shape technical strategy in Australia.
- Provide technical leadership in proposal development including scope definition and methodology design.
- Review and contribute to technical content of bids and submissions.
- Participate in client meetings and solution discussions in support of new business pursuits.
- Support account strategy, opportunity qualification, and pipeline growth.
- Assist in evaluating commercial and technical risk associated with new engagements.
- Talent Leadership & Technical Recruitment
- Define resource needs, lead, and participate in technical interviews for prospective CAI agents.
- Assess candidates’ technical competence and alignment with CAI’s Foundational Principles.
- Provide structured feedback to support hiring decisions.
- Mentor agents and promote knowledge sharing across disciplines.
- Client Advisory & Market Leadership
- Serve as senior technical advisor to key Australian clients.
- Represent CAI in industry forums and professional networks.
- Strengthen CAI’s technical reputation in the region.
- Quality Risk & Operational Excellence
- Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and CAI quality systems.
- Promote disciplined risk identification and mitigation practices.
- Champion safe working practices and an inclusive culture
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, Science or related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.
- 15+ years’ experience within GMP-regulated pharmaceutical, biotechnology or life sciences manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, multidisciplinary technical projects.
- Experience contributing to proposal development and client solution design.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of professional delivery models.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to travel within Australia as required.
