About This Opportunity
This is a great opportunity to join our Information Technology Infrastructure Group (ITIG) who look after the essential IT services that keep the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT) and its Schools and Centres running smoothly. You will support and maintain a range of faculty systems and infrastructures, which includes Windows, Unix, and intranet web/database environments, while contributing your expertise to related tasks aligned with the role.
Key responsibilities will include:
Development, maintenance and support of a broad range of Faculty infrastructure and services (focusing on Windows systems, software and roles such as AD, SCCM, GPOs, WSUS, etc, but also including intranet web applications/databases running on Unix systems, and systems integration scripts on both OSes).
Participate in the resolution of more complex technical problems reported by team members via helpdesk or escalated via frontline helpdesk staff.
Planning, development, deployment, and review of appropriate monitoring strategies of all role-related mission critical systems, services, and processes.
Support and maintain some physical hardware, VMware or SmartOS or similar guests (and associated configuration), operating systems, and key services for reliability, redundancy, and continuity in the event of a failure.
Foster relationships with and contribute to the greater UQ IT community.
Identify and explore opportunities to improve systems or processes or develop new services or facilities to improve the research, teaching, and learning missions of the University.
Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

About the Information Technology Infrastructure Group (ITIG) within the Faculty of EAIT
The EAIT ITIG is a 15–20-person faculty-specific IT team within The University of Queensland that throughout its more than a quarter of a century history has had a continual focus on technical excellence, client satisfaction, and on-premises infrastructure and systems. About You
A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software or Computer Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline with at least 4 years of subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.
Good written and verbal communication skills (able to write clear documentation, standards, and technical guides; liaise effectively with clients), interpersonal skills (working as part of a team), and attention to detail.
Experience working in a second-tier general technical support team, or equivalent experience demonstrating strong troubleshooting and problem resolution skills, astute judgement, and lateral thinking.
Solid skills in at least one programming language, with understanding and usage of at least a subset of PHP, C/C++, C#, Perl, Powershell, Python, Erlang, SQL, JavaScript, etc.
Good understanding of networking concepts and protocols (networks, vlans, routing, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, etc), security concepts like encryption, SQL injection, XSS/CSRF, etc.
Understanding of development and debugging practices like code versioning, browser development tools and plugins, debuggers, server-side logging, network packet capture, etc.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, etc.
