Bangalore - Carina Full time

About the Job

The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us. In this role, you will work in an agile team to develop and maintain the core of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, focusing on its integration with VMware vSphere and AWS.

This role leads the design, development, and implementation of software components, systems, and sub-features. Additionally, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system performance and functionality for customers running containerized workloads across private virtualized infrastructure and public clouds.  A focus on AWS or vSphere would be considered for this role.

What you will do:

  • Design and implement software solutions to address business requirements and technical challenges within the OpenShift ecosystem, focusing on vSphere and/or AWS.

  • Lead delivery by coordinating activities of team members to ensure successful completion of features in upstream Kubernetes, upstream OKD, and downstream OpenShift.

  • Lead the development of core components for hybrid cloud integrations, such as the OpenShift Installer, Cluster API (CAPV/CAPA), and Cloud Controller Managers.

  • Resolve complex system issues impacting software performance and scalability, particularly regarding integration with vCenter APIs, vSAN, and networking (NSX).

  • Lead code reviews and design discussions to ensure quality standards and best practices are met across the team.

  • Implement automated tests and CI/CD pipelines to validate software integrity and performance on both virtualized and cloud infrastructure.

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to improve team capabilities.

  • Proactively leverage AI technologies and AI-assisted tools (e.g., code generation, intelligent suggestions) to streamline workflows, accelerate development cycles, and enhance code quality.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and partner support teams to define and resolve issues impacting the customer transformation journey.

What you will bring?

  • Expertise in Go (Golang) and a solid grasp of concurrency patterns and system programming.

  • Proficiency in the Kubernetes ecosystem, including Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs), Operators, and the Controller-Runtime.

  • Strong vSphere Administration Skills: Hands-on experience with vCenter, ESXi, and the Govmomi library.

  • Cloud Infrastructure Knowledge: Experience with AWS services (EC2, VPC, IAM) and how they interface with Kubernetes.

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform or Ansible, in a virtualized context.

  • Ability to work with minimal instruction and make sound decisions to resolve technical challenges.

  • Excellent technical documentation and communication skills in English.

The following are considered a plus:

  • Active contributions to Kubernetes SIG-Cloud-Provider or SIG-VMware.

  • Experience with CAPI (Cluster API) and the specific vSphere provider (CAPV).

  • Familiarity with networking protocols and software-defined networking (SDN) like OVN-Kubernetes.

  • Experience with Python or Bash for automation and tooling.
