Job Summary

The Senior Software Developer, Acumax is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of complex software solutions supporting McKesson’s healthcare technology platforms. This role operates with minimal supervision, contributes across the full software development lifecycle, and delivers high-quality, scalable, and secure applications in support of McKesson’s mission to improve healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement robust and scalable software applications using modern programming languages and frameworks.
  • Collaborate with product owners, architects, and stakeholders to understand requirements, define technical specifications, and deliver effective solutions.
  • Apply independent judgment to solve complex technical problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Develop clean, efficient, and well-documented code aligned with established development standards and best practices.
  • Perform unit, integration, and system testing to ensure solution quality, reliability, and performance.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to team skill development and continuous improvement.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex software defects and performance issues in production environments.
  • Contribute to enhancements of development processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends; evaluate applicability within McKesson.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including designs, architectural decisions, and operational procedures.
  • Work effectively within an Agile/Scrum development environment.,

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Typically requires 7+ years of relevant professional experience.

Critical Skills and Experience

  • 5–7 years of professional software development experience, delivering complex, production-quality software solutions.
  • Expertise in RPG.
  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages, including Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript (Node.js/React).
  • Experience with relational databases, specifically DB2 for IBM i.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.g., Git), and automated testing frameworks.

Additional Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide less-experienced developers.
  • Healthcare industry experience is a plus.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$124,500 - $207,500
