Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Marketing, Ecommerce or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in eCommerce roles, with a focus on search optimization and analytics.
- Experience with search tools such as Bloomreach, Constrictor IO, Algolia, Endeca, or SOLR.
Job Summary
Supports the organization’s online business by advancing data-driven search strategies that optimize the eCommerce search experience. Partners with Category Experience, Brand Advocate, User experience, and Product Management teams to enhance product discoverability and drive conversion. Uses technical expertise, behavioral data, and analytical insights to inform the search roadmap, improve relevance and performance, and identify opportunities for innovation.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities
- Optimizes the online search experience by refining search logic, relevance tuning, precision algorithms, search terms, and categorizations, while resolving issues, escalating when needed, and addressing customer feedback on product findability.
- Analyzes customer behavior, search patterns, and performance data to identify friction points and surface actionable insights.
- Conducts testing and experiments, maintains search performance dashboards, monitors key performance indicators, and presents findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Recommends improvements to product data, naming conventions, categorizations, and merchandising information to strengthen accuracy, consistency, and discoverability.
- Evaluates and enhances the search interface by identifying optimization opportunities, aligning organic and internal search efforts, and applying industry best practices..
- Researches emerging search technologies, trends, and strategies to inform future enhancements and identify opportunities for innovation.
- Collaborates with cross-functional partners to anticipate business changes, support cohesive search strategies, and strengthen the overall customer experience.
- Serves as the subject matter expert for search initiatives by participating in requirements gathering and testing activities, documenting data migration and search processes, and recommending updates to data structures and product information systems.
Nature and Scope
- Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem solving skills in order to deal creatively with complex situations. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems. Makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty, sometimes with incomplete information, that produce effective end results.
- Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to the expected results. Determines and develops an approach to solutions. Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.
- May oversee the completion of projects and assignments, including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, evaluating results, etc. Contributes to employees' professional development but does not have hiring or firing authority.
Work Environment
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Education and Experience
- Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 5-8 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.
