Job Description:

Reporting to the Head of Network, Systems and Application Support, the Senior Network Engineer is a member of the team that supports the college community in using and applying information technologies to meet their educational and business goals and objectives. The position is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the College’s wired and wireless networks, core/edge network infrastructure equipment such firewalls, IPS/IDS, and NAC applications, as well as interconnects with cloud and off site hosting platforms.  It involves consulting and support for groups within LITS and the wider college community.

This position is a member of the Technology Infrastructure and Systems Support group, which focuses on providing the technology foundation and its accompanying framework for the infrastructure, resources, and services that support the College. Operations within the TISS Group include: data center operations, networking, web application support, business intelligence, academic, and administrative computing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Network & Wireless Administration: Manage a redundant virtual core, 300+ switches, and 1,350+ WAPs. Oversee authentication (NAC) and interconnects for SAN storage, VOIP, and virtual environments.

  • Security & Firewalls: Design and audit complex firewall configurations (virtual and cloud) using industry best practices. Monitor logs for incident investigation and mitigate emerging security risks.

  • Design & Strategy: Conduct research to update network architecture, firmware, and configuration standards. Lead capacity planning and automated monitoring initiatives.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain architecture diagrams, change management logs, and disaster recovery procedures. Ensure alignment with accessibility and regulatory standards.

  • Collaboration: Partner with the Five Colleges, Inc. consortium and participate in campus-wide committees to support educational and business goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

  • 3–6 years in enterprise network administration (Juniper, Aruba, or Cisco) and 5+ years managing enterprise wireless (Aruba, Cisco).

  • Expertise in wireless protocols, NAC (e.g., ClearPass), and enterprise firewall/VPN solutions (Palo Alto, Checkpoint).

  • Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical faculty, students, and staff.

  • High level of organization, professional tact, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with DNS/DHCP management (Bind, Route53, Kea).

  • Proficiency with wireless survey tools (Ekahau, AirMagnet).

  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Perl) for task automation.

Hiring Range: $103,176 - $121,200
