Role Overview

JR Automation is seeking a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer in Greenville, SC to lead the design and execution of complex, custom automation projects for global manufacturing customers. This role combines hands-on mechanical engineering expertise with technical leadership, overseeing cross‑functional teams, managing multiple projects, and driving quality, cost, and schedule performance. The ideal candidate thrives in an engineering-driven environment and is motivated by delivering innovative, one-of-a-kind automation solutions.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Supervise mechanical engineers and other staff.  

  • Assist engineers to identify areas for technical and career development. 

  • Partner with manager to develop engineering department through leadership, training and continuous improvement. 

  • Manage several on-going projects concurrently, including staffing, workload issues, and meeting project timelines    

  • Design mechanical equipment to meet customer requirements. 

  • Responsible for leading cross-functional technical teams throughout the lifecycle of various projects. 

  • Assists with the successful management of assigned programs as they relate to cost, quality, timing and customer satisfaction.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field 10+ years of relevant engineering experience

  • 2+ years of experience leading technical or engineering projects

  • Demonstrated expertise with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or AutoCAD

  • Broad and in-depth experience with automation products, services, and the automation industry

  • Proven ability to identify systemic issues and drive improvements in departmental efficiency

  • Experience leading cross-functional technical teams and influencing project direction and outcomes

  • Serve as a technical expert and leader within the department

  • Lead engineering teams and guide project execution, prioritization, and progress

  • Ability to negotiate and resolve critical technical issues with internal stakeholders and customer engineers

  • Strong communication skills, including delivering technical presentations and participating in customer or media-facing engagements as needed

  • Willingness to travel up to 20% to customer sites and other JR locations

  • Engineering Management degree or MBA preferred

  • FE Exam or EIT certification preferred
