Northrop Grumman – Medium Caliber Ammunition (MCA) Co‑Production Team
This opportunity is ideal for a self‑motivated, proactive engineer who will work in the Metal Parts group for the MCA co‑production effort. Our engineers work in a high‑visibility, fast‑paced environment that demands hands‑on problem solving, cross‑functional collaboration, and clear communication. Location:
This position requires on-site support. Selected candidate will need to be within commuting distance or relocate to Plymouth, MN. Relocation assistance for non-local candidates may not be available.
Position Description:
- Reports to the MCA Co‑Production Manager and interfaces with program and support functions, day to day work will be delegated to this individual from the Metal Parts Lead.
- Works with team to spec, procure, and install metal parts equipment for MCA projectiles and cartridges that will be manufactured at overseas sites.
- Presents work products at program reviews, proposals, or other project meetings.
- Serves as a technical interface with external customers and technical organizations.
- May step into additional roles as business needs dictate.
- Utilizes technical understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes.
- Travels up to 50 % domestically and internationally; deployments during implementation can be up to 30 consecutive days.
Responsibilities include:
- Aid in install and commissioning activities at the final facilities (often international locations).
- Communicating issues and status frequently and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Develop and document production procedures, improvements, and customer-training material.
- Equipment used includes CNC, grinding, swaging, metal finish, and other processes related to Medium Caliber Ammunition (MCA).
- Technical understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes.
- Requires extensive regular contact with assigned project customers, both internal and external.
- Participating in customer meetings and resolving engineering and management project issues.
- Read, understand, and modify equipment/machinery and product drawings and specifications, in both production and testing environments.
- Perform failure analysis of physical and functional test results when results do not meet requirements.
Basic Qualifications
This position emphasizes skills first.
- Must have 6 years of experience in manufacturing and production of mechanical components and/or systems.
- Will consider Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or STEM discipline plus 2 years of experience manufacturing and production of mechanical components and/or systems; or Master’s degree plus 0 experience.
- U.S. Citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related STEM area.
- 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, specifically focused in metal component machining.
- Familiarity with Design of Equipment, Tooling, Process Development and Manufacturing Process.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Fluency in MS Office software applications.
- Experience with engineering design software applications such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, and/or Creo.
- Familiarity with automation, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
Primary Level Salary Range: $79,600.00 - $119,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
