The Senior Materials Manager leads the planning organization to support the production and delivery of high-reliability aerospace and defense systems. This role ensures material availability, schedule adherence, and regulatory compliance while optimizing cost, quality, and lead time. 

The ideal candidate has experience in complex, regulated manufacturing environments and is skilled in driving performance, supporting production schedules, and enabling long-term program success. 

What You Will Do 

  • Lead materials management and planning, while working heavily with procurement, inventory control, and logistics 
  • Ensure timely material flow and readiness to support manufacturing, engineering, and aftermarket needs 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally (Program Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, etc.) to align with program goals 
  • Develop and track KPIs to measure and improve performance 
  • Drive continuous improvement using CORE, Lean, Six Sigma, and root-cause methodologies 
  • Optimize SAP utilization for planning and traceability 
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the materials team by implementing tailored individual development plans; build a culture of accountability and excellence 
  • Support new product introductions (NPI), ramp-ups, and SIOP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning) processes 
  • Ensure compliance with materials standards (e.g., PFEP, inventory entitlement, material master data) 
  • Act as the primary point of contact for site-level materials management 
  • Promote professional development among team members by implementing tailored individual development plans for all direct reports 
  • Execute WIP and capacity management, proactively resolving part shortages and constraints 
  • Monitors & manage inventory, monthly commits & operational adherence to the schedule 

Qualifications You Must Have 

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience 
  • 7+ years in materials management, supply chain, or procurement in aerospace, defense, or electronics manufacturing. 
  • 1+ years in leadership roles within manufacturing environments 

Qualifications We Prefer 

  • Bachelor’s in Supply Chain, Business, Industrial Engineering, or related field (required); 
  • Proficient in ERP/MRP systems; SAP experience is strongly preferred 
  • Strong analytical, planning, and forecasting skills 
  • Effective communicator with proven team leadership ability 
  • Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience 
  • Strong knowledge of material flow, inventory strategy, capacity planning and integrated information systems

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
