About The Team

Murdoch Active offers sport and recreation programs, facilities, and services that promote health and well-being for students, staff, and the wider Murdoch University community. It also supports the University’s teaching, research, and commercial initiatives.

Its goal is to enhance the student experience, foster community engagement, and strengthen connections with the University through inclusive and representative activities.

Programs and services are delivered via the Fitness Centre, Sports and Recreation Hall, indoor/outdoor courts, and external playing fields.

Your New Role!  

The Senior Gym Officer assists in the daily operations of the Recreation and Fitness Centre, including fitness and well-being programs. As a qualified and experienced instructor, they serve as an escalation point for Gym Officers and ensure programs and services are delivered in alignment with the Fitness and Wellbeing Coordinator’s direction and the Murdoch Active Strategic Plan.

Your key responsibilities will include –

  • Assist daily operations, act as a staff escalation point, and support member services including bookings, appointments, and sales
  • Lead fitness classes and assessments; collaborate on events, student placements, and external promotions
  • Support Fitness and Wellbeing Coordinator maintain equipment standards, resolve roster issues, supervise students, provide first aid, and ensure overall safety

This Fixed Term (12 Months) | Full Time (37.5 hours per week) attracts a remuneration of $79,017.00 – $88,012.00 (pro rata) plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • AQF qualification of diploma level or hire with substantial relevant experience
  • Proven ability to build strong stakeholder and customer relationships to achieve outcomes
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience with effective organisational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and a commitment to excellent customer service
  • Competence in computer applications for sport and recreation, including cash handling; experience in personal training, coaching, and fitness within a tertiary education environment.
