Position Overview 

The Principal Energy Project Manager will be responsible for leading the identification, evaluation, and execution of energy solutions for Vantage Data Centers. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong technical background in energy management, infrastructure, and project execution. The successful candidate will ensure that energy projects align with Vantage’s customer commitments and sustainability goals, delivering them on time, within scope, and within budget. The role encompasses regulatory, commercial, and technical solutions to meet the diverse needs of the organization. 

Essential Job Functions 

Identify Energy Solutions: 

  • Research and identify innovative energy solutions that align with Vantage Data Centers’ customer commitments, schedules, and sustainability objectives.
  • Stay updated on the latest energy technologies, trends, and market developments to recommend appropriate energy strategies.
  • Apply specialized knowledge to solve complex problems within the energy management and infrastructure domain. 

Evaluate Projects: 

  • Conduct feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and risk assessments for potential energy projects.
  • Assess energy markets, energy rates, and infrastructure critical to power delivery, ensuring alignment with Vantage’s business goals.
  • Provide technical analysis and insights to support decision-making processes.
  • Actively contribute to organizational strategy and cross-functional projects. 

Project Management: 

  • Plan, execute, and oversee energy projects from inception to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resources.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, including engineering, construction, operations, and development, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Manage project risks and implement mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Manage large and complex projects with limited oversight from a senior-level manager or director.
  • Perform difficult and responsible work, ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency. 

Stakeholder Collaboration: 

  • Work closely with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for energy-related projects, facilitating communication and collaboration across all relevant parties.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, regulators, and other key stakeholders. 

Regulatory Engagement: 

  • Support strategy development and execution of regulatory engagements with utilities, regulators, and related stakeholders important to data center infrastructure delivery, cost management, and sustainability goals.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. 

Commercial Solutions: 

  • Develop and implement commercial strategies to optimize energy procurement and cost management.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with energy suppliers and service providers. 

Technical Solutions: 

  • Design and implement technical solutions to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • Oversee the integration of new technologies and systems to improve energy performance.

  • Recognized as a specialist in a particular area, possessing in-depth knowledge and skills that contribute to the organization’s competitive advantage. 

Additional Duties: 

  • Handle additional duties as assigned by Management. 

 

Job Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Environmental Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in energy project management, preferably in the data center or utility sector.
  • Specialist knowledge of energy markets, energy technologies, and/or energy infrastructure delivery.
  • Deep and proven experience in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  •  Travel is required is expected to be up to 20% but may increase over time as the business evolves.
