About the role
Senior Electrical Engineering (Commissioning)
AGL is transforming the energy landscape, and our Sustainable Business Energy Solutions (SBES) team is at the forefront of delivering innovative hybrid energy systems for commercial and industrial customers. We’re now looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer (Commissioning) to play a key role in bringing these systems to life. Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, you’ll hold technical accountability for the safe and successful commissioning of hybrid energy systems deployed on customer sites. Working closely with the Project Manager and Commissioning Site Manager, you will lead commissioning execution, ensure systems meet performance specifications, and facilitate a seamless handover to operations. This is a role for someone who thrives in complex technical environments, enjoys hands-on problem solving, and wants to contribute to Australia’s energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end‑to‑end commissioning of hybrid energy systems, ensuring electrical components and control systems meet performance, compliance and safety requirements, and validating system performance for handover to operations.
Conduct construction verification and handovers with design and construction teams, overseeing pre‑commissioning and commissioning of equipment including generators, transformers, switchgear and protection systems.
Develop, review and implement commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, ITPs/ITCs and documentation, reviewing test reports, punch lists and as‑built records to confirm readiness and compliance.
Provide expert troubleshooting and technical guidance to internal teams, contractors and vendors, resolving defects and ensuring safe, controlled commissioning across all site activities.
Review vendor control system specifications, drawings and technical deliverables to ensure alignment with basis‑of‑design and project requirements.
Plan and execute safe energisation of hybrid energy systems, overseeing Permit to Work (LOTO), HV isolation and safe access processes.
Note: The role includes a mix of office and site work, with approximately 12–16 weeks of site-based activity per year.
About you
You are an experienced electrical engineer with a passion for commissioning complex energy systems and delivering high‑quality technical outcomes.
You’ll bring:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent).
Demonstrated experience commissioning electrical distribution systems, protection schemes, and renewable/embedded generation systems.
Strong organisational skills with a high attention to detail.
Proven ability to coordinate effectively across multidisciplinary project teams.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
A proactive, solutions‑focused approach to problem solving.
What We Offer
Flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements and an extra week of recharge leave annually.
Exclusive perks, such as discounts on energy, telco, and solar plans, plus novated leasing and EV subscriptions.
Support and recognition, with 20 weeks paid parental leave for primary carers, study assistance, and our Energise reward program.
Additional benefits, including share purchase plans, insurance deals, and opportunities to contribute to diversity and inclusion initiatives.
*Benefits may change over time and vary based on role type and location.
If you’re excited by complex engineering challenges and want to help shape the future of integrated clean energy solutions in Australia, we’d love to hear from you.
