What you'll do:

As Sanctions Programme Assistant Vice President at MUFG in London, you will play a central role in maintaining the integrity of sanctions controls across EMEA. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve close collaboration with Transformation and Technology partners, Country Compliance teams, Operations, Business stakeholders, and other Sanctions Teams. You will be instrumental in supporting the implementation of MUFG Bank’s financial crimes risk appetite by ensuring that all systems and controls are robustly managed. Your ability to draft detailed reports, manage complex remediation plans, coordinate approvals for change requests, and maintain accurate action trackers will be essential for success. You will also provide critical support during audits or regulatory exams by preparing comprehensive documentation and following up on outstanding actions. By overseeing annual risk assessments for sanctions compliance and integrating global policy standards into local procedures, you will help protect both clients’ assets and MUFG’s reputation. Your analytical skills will be put to use when creating management information reports that keep senior leaders informed about ongoing workflows.   • Deliver timely, well-evidenced responses to regulatory, audit, and compliance testing findings by collaborating closely with stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Represent the Head of Sanctions in governance meetings and forums as required, contributing your subject matter expertise to drive effective decision-making.

  • Draft and refine Management Self-Identified Issues (MSIIs), including developing clear wording, defining scope, and articulating remediation rationale for identified issues.

  • Support Issue Owners in drafting remediation plans, change requests, and closure submissions to ensure all actions are completed efficiently and accurately.

  • Maintain action trackers and stakeholder communications to keep remediation activities on schedule while proactively escalating risks with clear options and recommendations.

  • Prepare meeting materials for Issues Management meetings and follow up on relevant actions to ensure accountability throughout the process.

  • Provide oversight of reviews conducted by MUFG’s testing functions, audits, and regulatory exams on controls operated across EMEA Sanctions.

  • Contribute to and oversee completion of the annual risk assessment process for Sanctions in EMEA, ensuring alignment with global policy standards.

  • Draft and publish reports, presentations, proposals, risk assessments, and other materials required to support integration of global policies into business-as-usual processes.

  • Create and report team management information (MI), including data analysis and presentation to inform senior stakeholders about workflow progress and manual control effectiveness.

What you bring:

In joining MUFG as Sanctions Programme Assistant Vice President you will bring proven experience from a central compliance function within banking or financial services. Your background should include hands-on involvement with systems designed to detect or prevent financial crime—particularly those relating to sanctions controls. You will have demonstrated your dependability through meticulous report writing using advanced Excel skills while maintaining accuracy even under pressure. Your understanding of risk management principles will enable you to contribute meaningfully during annual assessments or when integrating new policies into business-as-usual processes. Interpersonal skills are vital; you must be able to connect with colleagues from diverse backgrounds while communicating complex information clearly. Experience managing competing priorities without sacrificing quality is essential given the fast-moving nature of regulatory requirements. If you have previously worked within a central sanctions function or possess technical skills such as Python programming—or hold relevant professional qualifications—these attributes would further distinguish your candidacy.   • A minimum of two years’ experience in a central compliance function within banking or financial services is essential for this position.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of banking systems and controls related to financial crime prevention is required to excel in this role.

  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office applications—especially Excel—and strong report writing abilities are necessary for daily tasks.

  • Excellent attention to detail combined with a broad understanding of financial crime risks such as sanctions, anti-money laundering (AML), anti-bribery & corruption (ABC) is expected.

  • A good grasp of risk management concepts as they apply within banking environments is important for effective performance.

  • Experience managing priorities efficiently while delivering high-quality results under tight deadlines is highly valued.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills that foster positive relationships with colleagues across departments are crucial for success.

  • Clear communication skills—both written and verbal—are needed when preparing reports or presenting findings to stakeholders.

  • Preferred: Previous experience working within a central sanctions function would be advantageous but not mandatory.

Preferred: Ability to use Python or hold relevant qualifications related to compliance or risk management would enhance your application.
