Job Summary:

This is a rare opportunity for a driven professional to help build a SOX compliance program from the ground up. This position is ideal for a manager who can operate independently, is comfortable with ambiguity, and is equally capable of leading workstreams and executing hands on testing or documentation when needed.

You will play a critical role in maturing Acrisure’s control framework, improving control owner readiness, and reducing risk across financial processes. This includes working closely with Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, Technology, and our external auditors.

Responsibilities:

SOX Program & Controls Execution

  • Lead planning, walkthroughs, testing, and reporting for SOX controls.

  • Maintain and update control documentation (narratives, flowcharts, RCMs).

  • Partner with control owners on expectations, evidence quality, and timely remediation.

  • Coordinate with external auditors to align testing and reduce duplication.

  • Assess business or system changes for SOX impact.

Control Owner Support & Remediation

  • Advise Accounting & Finance teams on control design and documentation standards.

  • Support quarterly certification processes and improve control maturity across key financial areas.

  • Evaluate deficiencies, drive remediation plans, and perform retesting as needed.

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Work with Technology and other teams on financial/IT control intersections.

  • Support governance initiatives, policy rollout, and system implementation efforts to ensure proper controls are embedded.

Hands On Execution

  • Perform testing, walkthroughs, or documentation directly during peak periods or for high risk processes.

  • Step into detailed evidence reviews or workpaper preparation when needed.

Program Management & Leadership

  • Contribute to SOX scoping, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain GRC tooling (e.g., Audit Board) and support reporting/metrics for leadership.

  • Provide coaching, review workpapers, and foster a culture of accountability and improvement.

Requirements

  • Independent Operator: Able to work with limited direction and provide sound, risk aligned recommendations.

  • Practical Communicator: Skilled at translating control requirements into clear, actionable guidance for business partners.

  • Balanced Approach: Comfortable flexing between strategic oversight and hands on execution as needed.

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization.

  • Builder Mindset: Solution oriented and able to improve processes without overengineering them.

Education and Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, external audit, or internal controls within a SOX or public company environment.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of US GAAP and SOX 404 requirements.

  • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with business leaders and communicate expectations clearly.

  • Execution: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications: CPA, CIA, or CISA.

  • Public Accounting: Experience within a Big 4 or other public accounting firm.

  • Technology: Experience with GRC systems (Audit Board preferred) and ERP platforms such as Workday.

  • Industry: Background in insurance, financial services, fintech, or other highly regulated industries.
