Job Summary

The Sales Consultant is responsible for promoting and selling the bank's suite of retail banking products and services to new and existing customers. This role involves identifying various markets and customer needs, recommending appropriate financial solutions and meeting sales targets while delivering exceptional customer service in line with the bank's values, standards, policies and procedures.

Job Description

  • Actively promote the bank's retail products including current accounts, savings accounts, personal loans, mortgages, credit cards, insurance products, and digital banking services
  • Meet or exceed monthly sales targets for assigned products
  • Conduct thorough needs assessments to identify appropriate financial solutions for customers
  • Explain features, benefits, terms and conditions of banking products clearly to customers; ensuring full conversations that drive primacy and PPC
  • Identify and pursue cross-selling and up-selling opportunities with existing and new to bank customers
  • Generate new leads through outbound activities, networking and participation in marketing campaigns and activations; including following up with prospects to convert leads into actual sales
  • Perform end-to-end account opening and ensure all accounts opened are KYC compliant
  • Attend to customer account mandate instruction changes in a timely manner
  • Conduct thorough Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and other assigned control environment checks to ensure compliance with policy and regulation
  • Own customer queries and complaints received and escalate unresolved queries to branch management in a timely manner
  • Ensure to follow and comply with all regulatory and policy prescriptions in line with sales, operations, risk and compliance management
  • Maintain regular contact with existing customers to ensure satisfaction and identify additional needs
  • Support customers with digital channel registration at account opening, drive usage and support migration of selected branch services to digital channels
  • Adhere to all relevant banking regulations; including but not limited to Bank of Botswana, Non-Banking Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority and Financial Intelligence Agency guidelines
  • Participate in regular product and skills training to enhance product knowledge and ensure timely completion of LMS and other assigned trainings
  • Keep updated on competitor offerings, market trends, and economic conditions
  • Contribute to team sales meetings and knowledge sharing sessions
  • Implement feedback from coaching sessions to improve sales techniques
  • Maintain accurate and complete customer documentation
  • Protect customer data and maintain confidentiality at all times

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or related field
  • Certificate of proficiency (both long & short term)

Experience

  • 2 years' experience in sales or customer service (banking experience advantageous but not essential)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skill
  • Knowledge of retail banking products and services

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of the Bank's products, services and policies including standard tariffs.
  • A good understanding of overall Retail goals & objectives, including the branch's objectives growth of sales, cost control and income contribution.
  • A thorough understanding of the sales process
  • A working knowledge of the procedure manuals
  • A good working knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation e.g. KYC, Anti-Money laundering, banking code, service standards, health & safety standards etc
  • A thorough knowledge of the bank's internal departments, systems & procedures as well as risk & rigour requirements
  • Knowledge of insurance products sold through the bank.
  • Excellent planning & organisation skills
  • Very strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Questioning skills
