The Opportunity
In the role of Safety Specialist working primarily out of Northbay, Ontario, you will report to the Contractor Safety Manager and will support the site and office team dedicated to your assigned projects on the implementation, oversight, and promotion of our Safety Management System.
What you'll do
Manage the company health and safety programs at a field level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work
Implementing and monitoring corporate safety policies and procedures
Assisting in safety program development and continual improvement
Assure our contractors programs meet requirements and expectations.
Complete and / or support incident investigation (ex. RCFA process) as required
Provide corrective action recommendations and assist in implementing metrics for tracking and reporting on performance
Provide oversight at project site locations to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
Routinely monitor the workforce for safe and unsafe behaviors and coach workforce on the correct behaviors when observed
Develop and support the implementation of health and safety documentation, specifically to field-based activities and projects
Complete audits and reviews on field-based safety documentation (Company & Contractor)
Interpret safety regulations specific to projects
Coordinate and present safety training to support company requirements
Administrative activities associated to health and safety requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalency certificate
6 + years of related experience
Familiarity with federal / provincial OHS codes and regulations
Preferred Qualifications
Post secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety will be considered an asset
A Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation will be considered an asset
Bilingual (English and French speaking) would be considered an asset
Proficiency in digital applications such as incident management software and MS applications
Experience and certification in Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
This position requires candidates to:
Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated up 75% of work schedule)
