About the role

At AGL, we’re reimagining how energy is delivered — smarter, cleaner and more customer‑centric. To support this transformation, we’re looking for a Risk & Assurance Manager to lead First Line risk management across our Customer Markets business.

This is a pivotal leadership role where you’ll partner closely with senior leaders, embed strong risk culture, and provide practical, commercial risk and assurance insights that enable performance while strengthening resilience.

Reporting to the Head of Governance & Assurance, you’ll lead a team of risk and assurance practitioners and operate as a trusted partner across the Customer Markets portfolio. You’ll be accountable for maintaining and executing a best‑practice First Line risk management framework, ensuring risks are proactively identified, managed and responsibly monitored within AGL’s risk appetite.

You’ll work across a broad operating environment — balancing regulatory requirements with commercial priorities — while shaping how risk supports better customer, operational and financial outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Own and maintain the First Line risk management framework for Customer Markets, aligning with AGL’s enterprise risk policies, standards and appetite

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of risk and assurance practitioners

  • Partner proactively with teams to identify, assess and manage risks, providing practical advice and insight

  • Design and oversee a risk‑based compliance assurance program, including operational control testing with a focus on continuous improvement

  • Drive a positive risk and compliance culture, lifting risk maturity through pragmatic guidance, forums, training and leadership engagement

  • Prepare and deliver clear, business‑friendly  reporting for senior leaders to support effective risk oversight and decision‑making

  • Build and sustain strong, trusted relationships across Customer Markets, Group Risk & Compliance, Internal Audit and Legal

  • Stay across emerging risk, assurance and compliance practices, including the use of technology to improve efficiency

  • Support broader risk, governance and compliance activities, including contribution to leadership forums, committees and regulatory reporting

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Prior experience working in risk, compliance or assurance leadership roles (Line 1 and/or Line 2)

  • Deep practical knowledge of ISO 31000 and applying risk and/or audit frameworks in complex environments

  • Experience working in a large ASX‑listed and/or highly regulated organisation (energy or utilities highly regarded)

  • Strong commercial acumen with an understanding of business drivers and operational risk

  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and navigate complex stakeholder environments

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing material for executive audiences

  • A pragmatic, adaptable mindset — able to balance risk rigour with commercial realities

  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g. Privacy Act, Retail Energy Regulations, Australian Consumer Law) highly desirable

  • Formal risk management certification will be well regarded

What We Offer

  • Flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements and an extra week of recharge leave annually.

  • Exclusive perks, such as discounts on energy, telco, and solar plans, plus novated leasing and EV subscriptions.

  • Support and recognition, with 20 weeks paid parental leave for primary carers, study assistance, and our Energise reward program.

  • Additional benefits, including share purchase plans, insurance deals, and opportunities to contribute to diversity and inclusion initiatives.

If you’re a seasoned risk leader who thrives on partnership, influence and driving meaningful change — we’d love to hear from you.

Applications need to be submitted by Wednesday 28th January 2026
