Work Schedule: Full-time   

Compensation: $38.76-$38.76 (hourly) + benefits

The Rigger safely moves, lifts, and installs heavy equipment or materials using tools such as ropes, cranes, and pulleys. They plan and set up rigging systems, attach loads securely, and coordinate with teams to ensure everything is moved safely and efficiently.   

Typical duties include but are not limited to:  

  • Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material in manufacturing plant or shipyard, selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved. 

  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps.  

  • Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes and chains, to crane hook, gives directions to Bridge-or-Gantry-Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals, loudspeaker, or telephone. 

  • Sets up, braces, and rigs of hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches, splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle, and may direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment. 

  • Ensures that equipment being used is certified, appropriate for the application, and inspected prior to use. 

 

Qualifications:   

  • HS/GED and 3-5 years of experience; equivalent combination of education and experience allowed   

  • Applicable Rigger training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or from approved 3rd party certification body. 

  • Forklift certification is required. 
    Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Communicate effectively, work independently, or in a group. 

  • Ability to do basic math, i.e. add, subtract, divide, and multiply. 

  • Ability to perform metric conversions.  

  • Shackles and wire rope slings – size, capacity and use.  

  • Block and tackle – assembly, capacity and use.  

  • Come-A-Longs and Air Tuggers – capacity and use.  

  • Possesses knowledge of mobile crane operations 

 

Physical Requirements: 

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.   

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties. 

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required 

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
