Job Description

An exciting opportunity is available for a Research Officer to join the Blewitt Laboratory in the Genetics and Gene Regulation Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the Position
The purpose of the position is to generate genetic proof of principle data for a potential new treatment for a neurodevelopmental disorder. This will entail extensive handling of neonatal mice, dissection and purification of DNA and RNA, molecular analyses, and preparation of RNAseq libraries and analysis of RNAseq data. The position works closely with other lab members and contributes to the team.

Selection Criteria

  • Experience with mouse work is essential, including live animal handling and dissection.

  • Experience with handling and assessing neonatal mice is highly desirable.

  • Experience with brain dissection is highly desirable.

  • Experience with purifying and analysing RNA is essential.

  • Experience preparing RNAseq libraries and RNAseq analysis is highly desirable.

  • Exceptional record keeping and communication skills are essential.

  • Excellent organisational skills and time management are required.

  • Interpersonal communication skills to ensure great team culture is essential.

  • A background in studying genetics is highly desirable.


Terms of Appointment
This position is a parental leave cover and as such is available fixed term until February 2027 in a full-time capacity. Salary is Research Employee Level A6-A8 (104,071-$111,707). Very attractive salary packaging options are available for general living expenses, meal entertainment, novated leasing and more. 12% superannuation payable, plus up to a further 5% after the first 6 months of service via our matching superannuation scheme.
