An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer to join the Brain Cancer Research Laboratory (Personalised Oncology Division) at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
About the Position
The Research Officer is responsible for establishing and conducting experimental research using genetically engineered mouse models, in vivo imaging, and complementary cell and molecular biology approaches. The goal of this role is to generate high-quality data that drives new biological insights and supports pre-clinical therapeutic development.
A central focus of the position is the development and application of genetically engineered models of glioma to investigate tumour initiation, aetiology, treatment response and translational opportunities. This work directly supports the laboratory’s mission of improving survival outcomes for patients with brain cancer.
The role will contribute to ongoing research programs informed by both published and unpublished work (e.g., Drummond et al., Nature Medicine 2025), while also developing new research directions that align with the laboratory’s strategic priorities. The position involves close collaboration within a multidisciplinary team of cancer biologists, bioinformaticians and clinician scientists and may include supervision and mentorship to junior researchers and students.
Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
A relevant doctoral qualification or equivalent
An excellent academic record and achievements
Demonstrated ability and potential for excellence and productivity in research
Research experience that has resulted in publications, conference papers or reports
Proven interpersonal and collaborative skills in achieving research outcomes
Personal Qualities:
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work constructively within a team environment
Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data, new methods and theories are accurate, of high-quality and accessible to other researchers
Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable
Terms of Appointment
This position is available for 2 years in a full time capacity. Salary is Research Employee Level A6-8 ($104,071 - $111,707). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
