The Research Laboratory Technician II provides advanced operation and maintenance of research laboratory facilities and equipment within the Department of Ecology & Environmental Studies & Cyanobacteria Laboratory. This position performs a variety of moderately complex laboratory tests and procedures, and is responsible for maintaining a safe, uninterrupted work environment in accordance to departmental and national safety guidelines.

Job Description
Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
- Prepares and maintains laboratories facilities for research and student support.
- Performs a variety of laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses, including genetic analyses of specimens collected from natural field collections and laboratory cultures.
- Collects, analyzes, interprets data and prepares reports.
- Prepares specimens, cultures, solvents, solutions, reagents, and apparatuses according to faculty guidelines.
- Consults with researchers regarding laboratory procedures and experiments.
- Prepares and maintains clean laboratories facilities. Responsible for set up and breakdown of experiments.
- Participates in environmental health and safety audits, maintains accurate records, and ensures compliance with safety regulations of science laboratories.
- Provides training on proper usage of laboratory equipment and safe laboratory practices including safe handling and disposal of biohazardous materials, and standard policies and protocols for reporting unusual events.
- Performs routine maintenance and inspections to ensure optimum calibration and condition of equipment.
- Maintains supplies and replenish stocks of solvents, reagents, and solutions for research laboratory. Ensures chemicals are stored in the correct manner according to safety codes, regulations, and best practices.
- Maintains accurate records on equipment maintenance and acquisition of supplies.
- Assists in the development of laboratory standard operating procedures.
Other Duties:
- Prepares technical reports and supports scientific communication.

Required Qualifications:
- This position requires a high school diploma and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
- Relevant full-time experience in a laboratory setting.
- Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, and Outlook).
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Environmental Studies, Geology, Marine Science, Biology, Chemistry, or other appropriate Natural or Physical Science.
- Laboratory experience in an academic setting.
- Laboratory experience with extraction and analysis of DNA.
