The USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology is seeking a Research Lab Technician I to join its team! This is an opportunity for a reliable and self-motivated person to participate in cutting-edge aging and Alzheimer's disease research. The Research Lab Technician I has a primary role in maintaining experimental rodent models for a range of research projects investigating systemic and neural effects of aging and Alzheimer’s disease, and molecular and genetic characterization of C. elegans with altered rates of health across the lifespan.

The successful candidate will also provide basic technical assistance to other laboratory personnel in conducting research experiments and will perform standard tests and procedures under close supervision. 

The Lab Technician is critical to our research projects investigating genetic and dietary influences on normal aging. It is important that we have a skilled lab technician to support our effort of successfully carrying out our research projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

· Perform standard laboratory techniques, after training, including immunohistochemistry, physiological assessment, microscopy, PCR, and Western blotting.

· Assist post-docs and graduate students in executing protocols for the phenotypic characterization of strains. 

· Prepare experimental materials using laboratory protocols and safety guidelines.

· Set up and operate standard laboratory equipment.

· Maintain accurate records of procedures used to conduct basic experiments. Perform routine analysis and provide basic interpretations.

· Maintain laboratory environment in orderly, operable condition.

· Learn basic laboratory safety and, if appropriate, basic radiation or bloodborne pathogen safety under the direction of the USC Safety Office and more experienced laboratory staff.

· Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time

Preferred Qualifications:

· Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

· Minimum Experience: 1+ years, Combined education/experience as a substitute for the minimum experience

· Minimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and the ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.

The hourly range for this position is $22-23.50. This position is funded by a research contract/grant and may be funded by a subsequent contract/grant. Accordingly, your position is contingent upon receipt of the necessary funding from this contract or any subsequent grant to continue your employment.
