We are looking for a Research Fellow to join a Samsung-funded research project on the comprehensive mitigation of optical backreflections in photonic integrated circuits. The role will focus on the design, fabrication, and characterization of O-Band quantum dot hybrid silicon lasers, silicon plasma dispersive devices, and heterogeneous lithium tantalate photonic isolators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and simulate O-Band quantum dot hybrid silicon laser structures for backreflection-resilient operation

  • Develop and optimize silicon plasma dispersive devices for on-chip optical isolation

  • Fabricate heterogeneous lithium tantalate photonic isolators using cleanroom microfabrication processes

  • Characterize optical devices including laser performance, isolation ratio, and backreflection measurements

  • Analyze experimental data and develop models to understand backreflection mitigation mechanisms

  • Prepare technical reports, journal publications, and conference presentations

  • Collaborate with project partners and contribute to project milestones and deliverables

Job Requirements:

  • PhD qualification degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Materials Science, or related field

  • Experience in photonic device design, fabrication, or characterization is preferred

  • Familiarity with cleanroom fabrication processes for semiconductor or photonic devices

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Proficiency in optical/photonic simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL, RSoft, or similar)

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research team environment

  • Entry level candidates are welcome to apply
