We are looking for a Research Fellow to join a Samsung-funded research project on the comprehensive mitigation of optical backreflections in photonic integrated circuits. The role will focus on the design, fabrication, and characterization of O-Band quantum dot hybrid silicon lasers, silicon plasma dispersive devices, and heterogeneous lithium tantalate photonic isolators.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and simulate O-Band quantum dot hybrid silicon laser structures for backreflection-resilient operation
Develop and optimize silicon plasma dispersive devices for on-chip optical isolation
Fabricate heterogeneous lithium tantalate photonic isolators using cleanroom microfabrication processes
Characterize optical devices including laser performance, isolation ratio, and backreflection measurements
Analyze experimental data and develop models to understand backreflection mitigation mechanisms
Prepare technical reports, journal publications, and conference presentations
Collaborate with project partners and contribute to project milestones and deliverables
Job Requirements:
PhD qualification degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Materials Science, or related field
Experience in photonic device design, fabrication, or characterization is preferred
Familiarity with cleanroom fabrication processes for semiconductor or photonic devices
Good written and oral communication skills
Proficiency in optical/photonic simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL, RSoft, or similar)
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research team environment
Entry level candidates are welcome to apply
