The Position

Roche / GenMark Diagnostics’ mission is to revolutionize patient care by providing high-value, simple-to-perform, and clinically relevant multiplex molecular diagnostics, specifically targeting infectious disease testing. We aim to improve patient outcomes, enhance laboratory efficiency, and reduce total cost-of-care through rapid, sample-to-answer solutions.  

Roche/Genmark Diagnostics is seeking a Research Associate II (RA) to join our team. In this role, the RA will be responsible for day to day running of experiments and data analysis in the assay development laboratory. In addition, the RA will be effective in research design, data analysis, and evaluation of new techniques & procedures for products, systems or technologies. The Opportunity:
 

  • You will conduct general molecular biology tasks, including nucleic acid purification, quantification, amplification and analysis on multiple platforms

  • You will prepare reagents and solutions as needed, using appropriate procedural and documentation methods, including industry standard good laboratory practices

  • You will be responsible for maintaining stockroom supplies and inventory

  • You will perform duties under supervision with increasing independence

  • You will identify and solve problems in experiments or protocol designs, suggests improvements

  • You will prepare documents meeting company standards, including data summaries, reports, SOPs and procedures

  • You will present work at meetings as required, and proposes new strategies and methods to address immediate and upcoming technical issues

  • You will read and review literature directly associated with assigned project and related areas Interacts with other internal departments, as necessary, to plan and expedite project objectives

  • You will support R&D engineering team in feasibility and small to medium scale testing.

     

Who You Are:
(Required)

  • You have a BS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry or a related field with 3+ years of experience in molecular biology or biochemistry laboratory experience post-degree or a MS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry or a related field.

  • You have a good level of understanding and hands on experience in biological sample handling, nucleic acid purification, amplification and detection techniques

  • You have demonstrated experience with Qubit and dPCR instruments for extraction efficiency analysis

  • You have demonstrated working knowledge of scientific principles

  • You have a demonstrated level of proficiency in research design, data analysis, and evaluation of new techniques & procedures for products, systems or technologies

Preferred:
 

  • You have experience working with sample to answer diagnostic consumables 

  • You have experience working in a global organization

  • You have excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple changing projects and priorities; you have the ability to work independently with minimal direction

  • You have demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills; preparation of documents, including data summaries, reports and procedures

 
 

This position is based onsite in Carlsbad, CA. This is not a hybrid position.
Relocation benefits are not offered for this job posting.
 

The expected salary range for this position based in Carlsbad, CA is $59,900 - $85,600.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The essential functions of the job are usually performed in an environmentally controlled facility where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  This position may involve a combination of office and biotechnology laboratory environments.   The employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, blood borne pathogens and automated equipment.

While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.  The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
