Research Assistant/Research Fellow (computational modeling)

Overview:

  • Full-time, Fixed Term position for two years

  • Salary Academic Level A/B ($102,047 - $136,925) + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements

  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

About You
The Research Assistant will undertake research activities in line with the University’s research strategy. It is expected that the Research Assistant will work with an increasing degree of autonomy as skills and experience develop.


The Research Assistant will work within a collaborative project addressing the atomic origin of imperfections within Josephson junctions and the ramifications for quantum computing. This work is part of a multi-institution project involving RMIT, Rigetti Computing, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, University of Virginia, University of Connecticut. They will be required to perform computational and theoretical analysis using a range of techniques, as well as collaborating with the other members of the wider project team.

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • PhD qualification in the relevant discipline area, such as computational/theoretical physics or chemistry, or applied mathematics.

  • Demonstrated evidence of computational modelling experience, including code development and data analysis.

  • Ideally experience using one or more of the following:

    • Molecular dynamics packages such as LAMMPS

    • Empirical force field techniques such as ReaxFF, MACE etc.

    • Phase-field modelling techniques

  • Evidence of research output including publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field.

  • Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.

  • Demonstrated high level of communication skills.
