CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Research Assistant 1 contributes to research investigators by providing research and experimentation support while following established protocols. The Research Assistant 1 performs a clerical role to ensure the smooth operations of office facilities.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Sets up and operates various scientific apparatus and makes minor repairs.
2. Prepares correspondence and answers phones.
3. Formulates and maintains bibliographies and completes applications and forms.
4. Orders laboratory supplies and maintains culture media reagents.
5. Reviews and edits various materials for publication and prepares publication schedules.
6. Maintains appropriate logs, records, and study notebooks.
7. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license

Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required

Certification and Licensing:

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Outreach

  • Lead recruitment efforts by engaging Hispanic LGB youth and families in Miami-Dade through community organizations, clinics, schools and social networks.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, including in pediatric primary care settings, to support recruitment goals.

Screening & Enrollment

  • Conduct eligibility screenings with potential participants.
  • Obtain informed consent and assent in accordance with study protocols.
  • Enroll eligible families into the study.

Participant Support & Retention

  • Maintain ongoing communication with participating families.
  • Provide reminders for intervention sessions and follow-up assessments.
  • Support participant engagement and retention throughout the study period.

Research Activities

  • Assist with data collection activities, including surveys and interviews.
  • Conduct fidelity assessments as required by the study protocol.
  • Ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and proper documentation of all research data and records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant research, community outreach, or health-related experience

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Position Details

  • Location: Miami-Dade County
  • Employment Type: Part-time; grant-funded position
  • Schedule: Afternoon and weekend availability required to accommodate family schedules
  • Transportation: Must be willing and able to travel to multiple clinic sites and community locations.
