The University of Kansas Medical Center-Wichita campus invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the human cadaveric dissection laboratories in Wichita, Kansas. Job Description:

Job Duties:

Anatomy Education 

  • Serve as an anatomy lab instructor throughout the first- and second-year curriculum in Wichita. 

  • Develop, plan, and deliver high-quality lectures and laboratory sessions in conjunction with KUSM tricampus faculty including regular planning meetings to ensure tricampus comparability. 

  • Arrange cadaver transportation, confirm annual cadaver orders, and request lab supplies as necessary. 

  • Administer and supervise other faculty in the administration of lab assessments in conjunction with KUSM tricampus faculty. 

  • Assist and participate with basic science anatomy integration in Phase 2. 

  • Provide content-specific learning support by promptly answering questions from students in person, by email or by other means as is most effective. 

  • Conduct periodic review sessions, as needed, or requested by the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education. 

  • Collaborate with the KU-Wichita Simulation Center. 

  • Collaborate with other partner institutions and communities. 

  • Oversee part-time anatomists, residents, and faculty who assist in the lab. 

 

Anatomy Lab Management 

  • Care for the cadavers and cadaveric specimens. 

  • Ensure laboratory is clean, organized, and orderly.  

  • Provide oversight of lab inventory, supplies, task trainers, equipment, and specimens. 

Additional Medical Education 

  • Serve as a facilitator for four case-based collaborative learning sessions per week. 

  • Lead and coordinate first and second-year medical student question groups with assistance from learning specialists in Kansas City. 

  • Support students studying the curriculum and preparing for Step 1. 

 

Other Duties

  • Serve as a block director as opportunities arise.  

  • Conduct scholarly work related to medical education, anatomy, pathology, histology, and/or clinical practice, or another area of interest 

  • Be an active advisor for the Anatomy Student Interest Group and assist with other SIG activities that incorporate clinically relevant anatomical training as appropriate. 

  • Participate in department and university committees as required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: PhD in Anatomy.  

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position.  The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Work Experience:

  • Human dissection skills of all body regions.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching human anatomy at the medical or graduate level. 

  • Record of scholarly activity.
