JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Intelligent Manufacturing and Operations Engineering Department of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking an undergraduate student to assist development of prototypical web and desktop applications.  These applications are used to integrate systems and information in the engineering, manufacturing, and logistics domains.

Typical Duties include:

  • Developing software applications that integrate algorithms
  • Building web based applications
  • Building services to expose application data and logic
  • Developing backend software components
  • Analyzing information exchange requirements
  • Documenting existing and new systems and architectures
  • Managing containers and continuous integration pipelines

Students studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering are encouraged to apply.

Required skills/knowledge includes:

  • Software development experience
  • Object oriented languages such as Java, C#, typescript

Preferred skills/knowledge includes:

  • Experience with web development frameworks such as Angular and Java Spring
  • A strong cyber security background
  • Experience with Docker and containerization
  • Database design experience

The successful candidate will work up to 20 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters and 40 hours/week over the summer.
