About TEGNA

TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) helps people thrive in their local communities by providing the trusted local news and services that matter most. With 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, TEGNA reaches more than 100 million people monthly across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear television. Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news.

WUSA9, the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in Washington, D.C., is looking for two experienced Multi-Skilled Journalists with a proven ability to break stories, shoot and edit on deadline, and connect with audiences on every platform.
The ideal candidates thrive in high-energy breaking news environments, know how to move a story forward throughout the day, and bring creative, distinctive storytelling to life across broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.
You’ll be joining a newsroom committed to our brand pillars — Inform, Inspire, and Impact — through accountability reporting, solution-oriented storytelling, and community connection.
Often, you’ll work with a photojournalist, but you should also value the control that comes from being able to shoot, write, and edit your own content. Above all, you bring a deep respect for journalism ethics, accuracy, and urgency.

Responsibilities:

  • Enterprise and break exclusive stories that make an impact in our community.
  • Deliver authoritative, compelling live shots, especially during developing or breaking news.
  • Shoot, write, produce, and edit stories for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms on tight deadlines.
  • Use innovative production techniques — graphics, creative visuals, and social storytelling — to elevate your reporting.
  • Leverage social media and digital tools to research, verify, and distribute content.
  • Build and maintain strong sources that advance our coverage.
  • Pitch daily story ideas and collaborate with producers and the assignment desk.
  • Write in an engaging, conversational, and authentic voice that connects with viewers.
  • Uphold WUSA9’s commitment to accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of on-air reporting experience in a medium-to-large market (7 years preferred).
  • Proven track record of breaking news coverage and original enterprise reporting.
  • Proficiency in shooting, lighting, and non-linear editing (EDIUS preferred).
  • Strong writing, storytelling, and tease-writing abilities.
  • Solid news judgment, strong communication, and ethical decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with newsroom systems such as ENPS, Axis Graphics, and digital content tools.
  • Must be organized, adaptable, and able to perform under deadline pressure.
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving live environments.
  • Demonstrated success creating engaging content for broadcast, social, and digital audiences.
  • Familiarity with or connection to the Washington, D.C. region is a plus.
