What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Construction Management Summer Intern will support the project execution and construction management team with day-to-day project coordination, reporting, and controls activities. This role is designed to provide hands-on exposure to industrial construction projects, focusing on schedule management (Primavera P6), cost controls, contractor coordination, project reporting, and mechanical completion and commissioning activities under the guidance of experienced project managers, and project controls professionals.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Project Controls & Reporting (Learning-Focused)

  • Assist with preparation of weekly and monthly project status reports, including schedule and cost summaries.

  • Work with the project scheduling team to learn and understand Primavera P6 (P6) schedules, including: Schedule logic and activity relationships, Progress updates and status reporting, Short-term look-ahead schedules

  • Work with project cost controls to learn and understand cost reporting, including: Actual cost vs. forecast tracking, Cash flow reporting, Cost-to-complete concepts, Change order cost impacts

  • Gain exposure to earned value concepts (planned vs. earned vs. actual progress).

Construction & Field Coordination Support

  • Support the project team with coordination between construction execution, plant operations, and contractors.

  • Attend project meetings to observe and document: Weekly site coordination meetings, Contractor status meetings, Safety, schedule, and progress reviews

  • Assist with tracking and organizing: RFIs (Requests for Information), Submittals and drawing revisions, Field issues and constraints

  • Support material tracking efforts, including delivery status and inventory awareness.

  • Support mechanical completion on the TMA/MAO pyrogaps project by generating Mechanical completion checklist, ensure proper signatures are received, and assist in commissioning activities.

  • Participate in model reviews and constructability reviews on large capital projects within the central projects team

  • Participate in the development of formal WR Grace construction management policies and procedures

Schedule & Cost Exposure Activities

  • Assist in reviewing reported construction progress against scheduled activities.

  • Learn how labor hours, labor costs, and productivity are tracked and reported.

  • Observe discussions related to: Schedule constraints and mitigation actions, Change orders and contract modifications, Schedule recovery and forecast completion planning

General Project Support

  • Assist the Project Coordinator and Project Management team with administrative and coordination tasks.

  • Maintain organization of project documentation in coordination with document control.

  • Support compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety expectations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of project execution and learning objectives.

Ideal Background

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or engineering

  • Strong interest in construction project execution and controls

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively

  • Willingness to learn, observe, and support field and office-based project activities

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
