Purpose of Role:

The Profitability Specialist is responsible for analysing financial data to assess and optimise the profitability of products, services, and business units across the EMEA region. This role combines deep financial analysis with strategic pricing responsibilities, ensuring that pricing strategies are grounded in robust cost and market data. The Profitability Specialist will provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve margins, support pricing decisions, and drive commercial performance. The role involves close collaboration with finance, sales, operations, procurement, and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse revenue streams, cost structures, and margins across products, services, and regions to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement pricing strategies for manufactured and purchased goods, ensuring alignment with business goals and market conditions.
  • Conduct costing variance analysis to explain deviations between standard and actual costs, assessing their impact on pricing and profitability.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly profitability reports and dashboards for management, including KPIs to monitor performance.
  • Build and maintain financial and pricing models that incorporate cost fluctuations, exchange rates, and supplier pricing changes.
  • Support pricing strategy development based on profitability analysis and market intelligence.
  • Recommend margin enhancement actions, collaborating with procurement, production, and sales teams.
  • Analyse competitor pricing, market trends, and customer segments to inform pricing and profitability decisions.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and commercial teams, supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and medium-range planning processes.
  • Provide profitability and price support/guidance to the Sales team.
  • Support new product introductions with pricing and profitability analysis.
  • Coordinate preparation of inputs for pricing committee meetings and business area reviews.
  • Analyse P&L by product lines, plants, or customer segments to determine true gross and net margins.
  • Build 'what-if' pricing, volume, and mix analyses to forecast how changes impact profitability.
  • Present monthly close and performance insights in regional review meetings.
  • Deploy dashboards and BI tools for real-time profitability metrics and enhanced decision support.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience in financial analysis, profitability analysis, pricing, or cost analysis, ideally in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, including standard costing and variance analysis.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills; proficiency with BI tools and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in a dual-sourcing environment (manufactured and purchased goods) and familiarity with dynamic or value-based pricing is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of supply chain cost structures and their impact on pricing and profitability.
  • Understanding of local and international market trends, especially in steel or related industries, is a plus.
