What You Will Do:

  • Work closely with 10-20 other Composite Technicians under the supervision of a Working Lead and Production Supervisor to bring essential naval products to life.
  • Judgments and decisions at this level are guided by clearly described procedures and instructions, and the work consists of recurring steps involved in the assembly of parts, subassemblies, and larger components.
  • Perform tasks by following clearly described procedures and instructions, and the work consists of recurring steps involved in the assembly of parts, subassemblies, and larger components.
  • Perform casting of materials to fabricate parts and/or for repair applications using products and processes which are varied but generally not complex in scope.
  • Fabricate polyurethane and like materials into subassemblies for the purpose of pre-fitting in preparation for bonding.
  • Load and operate presses, ovens, and autoclaves. Adheres to equipment requirements and the method and sequences of operation to be followed in fabrication of parts using materials such as polyurethane, fiberglass, epoxy resins, and like materials.
  • Layout, pre-fits, assembles and casts polyurethane and like material on a variety of molds and surfaces.
  • Verify work to ensure a defect free part prior to presenting to quality control (inspection).
  • Provide specialized technical assistance and interact with team members to implement solutions.
  • Operate large manual, electric & pneumatic tools in the assembly and disassembly of large heavy steel structures, molds and fixtures.
  • Read and interpret standard work to perform necessary tasks.
  • Be able to identify tooling and materials compatible with the processing techniques identified in the work instructions.
  • Apply skill in the use of production tools
  • Be available for overtime when required to meet project schedule.
  • Cross-train within the department and support various manufacturing operations.
  • Will frequently lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally, may lift items that weigh over 20lbs. and up to 40 pounds with mechanical lifting devices.
  • Work outdoors at a limited capacity to meet project schedule.
  • Engage in various physical activities to perform job including standing and kneeling.
  • Perform tasks at elevated heights, utilizing various ladders, platforms, and harnesses.
  • Use computers to record data (Excel), track time (Autotime).
  • Must have or be willing and able to obtain certification to operate powered industrial vehicles (forklifts, etc.).

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D. in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
  • Must either have or be willing to obtain certification to operate a powered industrial vehicle (forklifts, etc.)

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • 2+ years experience in a manufacturing, industrial environment or assembly labor position preferred.
  • 2+ years experience in composite or rubber manufacturing is highly preferred.
  • Prior aerospace / marine industry experience is preferred.
