Job Summary
Value Chain Optimization (VCO) is seeking a motivated employee with interest in commodities scheduling and optimization of the refinery, while working closely with business partners to identify and advance optimization opportunities to fill our Product Coordinator position at our Los Angeles Refinery located in Carson, California. This position works across organizations, including but not limited to Marathon Distribution, Commercial Scheduling, Commercial Planning & Optimization, and Refinery Products Control. The ideal candidate should be a strong communicator with interest in learning refinery economics and Marathon's commercial side of the business.
VCO views this as a growth opportunity for an employee seeking to gain knowledge in refinery logistics & economics, as well as the commercial side of the business. This position will report directly to Economics & Planning Manager.
The available schedules for the position are 9/80, 5/40 or 4/1, after hours calls a couple times a week Core business hours are: 8 AM - 3 PM.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate with key stakeholders to maximize feedstock or product value. Clearly identified value opportunities in coordinating role and executes them.
Respond to unexpected events, making contingency arrangements to minimize disruption of supply and minimize refinery impacts. Actively work with tank farm and refinery operations to ensure understanding of logistic and economic planning.
Use Aspentech Petroleum Scheduler (APS) software in daily job tasks to manage dock utilization, product certification, etc.
Manage scheduling and coordinating responsibilities independently. Build relationships with key Refinery and Commercial stakeholders.
Execute new business processes and improves existing processes to reduce risk, improve performance, and add value to the operations team. Execute efficiency upgrades to work processes for their respective area.
Provide backup coverage to at least one product coordinator position.
Understand financial implications of supply coordination across multiple desks. Proactively identifies and communicates commercial / operational optimization opportunities that improve area’s financial disposition.
*Additional responsibilities will be required at the Senior level position.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
Must have High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of experience in crude oil/refined products coordinating experience or proven execution of equal ability in refinery or petrochemical industry. OR Bachelor’s degree in related area and 3 years of experience in crude oil/refined products coordinating experience or proven execution of equal ability in refinery or petrochemical industry.
Must have good Action Planning, Adaptability, Business Acumen, Change Facilitation, Communication, Continuous Improvement, Customer Service, Decision Making, Innovation, Results Driven, and Teamwork skills. (Leadership and Mentoring in senior roles.)
Ability to take after hour calls to respond to unexpected events, making contingency arrangements to minimize disruption of supply and minimize refinery impacts.
Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel , Outlook and Power Point.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
Travel Requirement is 5 % or less.
