We are now looking for a Procurement Lead, who will manage the Baker Perkins team of 10, and is responsible for managing the overall supply chain and logistics.  This is inclusive of strategic sourcing, procurement, tactical buying, and operational purchasing activities, with management of ~$30M spend coverage. 

This role requires strategic planning, materials management, leadership, and exceptional negotiation skills to ensure the company’s sourcing and procurement activities are cost-effective and value-adding.  As the Procurement Lead, you are a key strategic partner to the Baker Perkins business as well as the Global Sourcing and Supply Chain functional teams.  You must have the right mindset to enable collaboration, achieve breakthrough performance, and ensure that all work is linked to business outcomes. 

As the Procurement Lead UK, you will:

  • Be a visible leader to the procurement team, establishing clear ways of working and providing leadership by example. 
  • Lead and mentor the sourcing and procurement team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.  You will create a high performing, agile, scalable team by providing coaching, development, training, and career planning. 
  • Develop and manage performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of sourcing strategies and initiatives.
  • Guide and support the team to conduct quotes, negotiate with suppliers, award business (with business consensus), and supplier relationship management.
  • Develop and manage the respective team budgets
  • Leverage analytic tools to identify new opportunities and better outcomes for the both the business and customer, helping to define new “ways of working”.
  • Coordinate with leaders to define and implement corporate policies and initiatives such as but not limited to supplier diversity, supplier risk, data management, etc.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams across the company to drive success.       
  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans to achieve significant cost savings and improve operational efficiency, as well as strategies and processes to optimise business performance and meet future business needs.
  • Direct and lead initiatives to improve supply management, policy guidance, and pricing activities. 
  • Partner with suppliers on innovations to drive value for the business and ensure that we are not disrupted in the marketplace, whilst also partnering with New Product Development and Business Innovation teams to support supplier selection, development, and launch. 
  • Leverage big data and data science to discover patterns and solve strategic & tactical business problems using massive structured and unstructured data sets across multiple environments
  • Lead, project manage and support supplier footprint optimisation – transitioning supply between regions to de-risk, dual source, and leverage competitiveness
  • Ensure that product costing and sourcing decisions are based upon the total cost of sourced items (Total Cost of Ownership - TCO) for example: currency exchange, freight, non-value-added activities, and consideration for localized or imported sourcing


To be suitable for the role of Procurement Lead UK, you will demonstrate the following skills and experiences:

  • Strong knowledge of strategic sourcing and procurement principles and best practices.
  • Excellent negotiation and strategic planning.
  • Strong knowledge of tactical buying and operational purchasing activities and best practices.
  • Strong leadership and team management.
  • Strong financial acumen and project management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant sourcing and procurement software.
  • Manufacturing process knowledge preferred with experience in clean sheet and total cost of ownership.
  • Demonstrated success in Working Capital (inventory, terms) and Leadtime initiatives, as well as inventory management.
  • Proven experience in a leader role, preferably with a spend coverage of $30M or more.
  • Proven experience working in a global, multi-national company with a matrix reporting organisation preferred. 
  • Travel:  10%-20% may be required
