As a Process Modeller Drug Product in Synthetic Molecules Process Development (PTDC), you will be a specialist supporting Drug Product (DP) project teams. Your core responsibility is to apply pharmaceutical and process engineering principles to facilitate the scale-up of pharmaceutical processes from the lab to multi-equipment manufacturing platforms. You will be key in developing and maintaining digital twin platforms and ensuring engineering rigor is integrated into process design from the earliest stages.
Drive Scale-Up/Scale-Down: Provide crucial process and pharmaceutical engineering input to support the scale-up, scale-down, and optimization of unit operations for both batch and continuous DP processes.
Develop Digital Twins: Establish and maintain digital twin platforms with user-friendly interfaces to enable easy task performance and decision-making for your pharmacist colleagues.
Embed Engineering in Design: Support process development at the laboratory scale by ensuring that essential engineering considerations are built into the process design from the start.
Expand Modeling Platform: Develop and expand our internal scale-up/scale-down models self-service platform, creating "simplified" user interfaces for generalist applications across various unit operations. Grow relationships with Universities and external research consortia to help Roche stay at the forefront of Process Modeling.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work as a vital member of cross-functional teams, collaborating closely with pharmacists, data scientists, and Process Analytical Technology (PAT) experts.
Regulatory Contribution: Apply your engineering expertise and models to contribute to regulatory filings, including supporting the definition of design spaces and justification of scale-down models.
Technology Assessment: Actively follow and assess technological progress in the market and competitive field, identifying and implementing meaningful advancements within our organization.
Technical Mentorship: Act as a role model and catalyst for process modeling, using your engineering and modeling expertise to proactively support and guide DP project teams to improve business outcomes.
You are an experienced engineer specialized in the modeling and scaling of pharmaceutical processes, passionate about leveraging digital tools and data science to accelerate Drug Product development.
Advanced Education and Experience: You possess a higher education (at least Master's level) in Chemical or Pharmaceutical Engineering or a related field, coupled with a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience.
Pharmaceutical Process Expertise: Demonstrated experience in designing and scaling pharmaceutical processes, including the application of mechanistic and/or kinetic modeling.
Modeling Tool Proficiency: Proven experience in the field of process engineering/modeling in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry, ideally with experience using tools such as gPROMS/gWAP or Dynochem. Experience in building models using Python or MATLAB or another coding language.
Process Knowledge: Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical processes and equipment, including expertise in process design and process optimization across various scales.
Data-Driven Approach: You have used a variety of modeling techniques and possess a drive to learn and master new technologies, utilizing data-based insights to drive business results.
Conceptual Agility: Possesses strong conceptual thinking skills, comfortable working at the detailed project level while also abstracting learnings into general workflows.
Collaboration & Partnering: You are comfortable working with a wide range of partners and functional teams, with excellent teamwork and communication skills required for collaborating closely with the business.
Language Skills: Excellent command of written and spoken English is required; proficiency in German is considered a plus.
