The Privacy Counsel provides pragmatic, risk-based legal guidance to support business objectives while mitigating regulatory, reputational, and operational risk related to personal data processing.

 

The Privacy Counsel is responsible for partnering with the Lead Privacy Counsel and Organization Privacy Officers to draft, review and negotiate data processing agreements, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies governing the collection, use, sharing, and protection of personal data. This role partners closely with Legal, Compliance, Information Security, IT, People Organization, and business stakeholders to embed privacy-by-design principles into business processes, products, and technologies.

Responsibilties:

·        Under the supervision of the Lead Privacy Counsel, draft, review and negotiate data processing agreements and other privacy terms in vendor, client and business partner contracts.

·        In consultation with the Lead Privacy Counsel, provide legal advice on global privacy and data protection laws and regulations   and other regional or sector-specific requirements.

·        Advise stakeholders, in-house business attorneys and other members of the Legal team, in consultation with Privacy Officers and Lead Privacy Counsel, on privacy risks and issues related to data processing agreements, privacy obligations and any other relevant privacy risks.

·        Monitor and interpret emerging regulatory guidance and enforcement trends and translate them into actionable business advice.

·        Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s privacy program, policies, standards, and procedures.

·        Prepare risk memos and presentations for Assurant stakeholders in a concise and relevant manner.

-Foster strong working relationships with business leaders, in-house Legal and Compliance teams.

·        Respond to privacy-related inquiries from internal stakeholders and, where appropriate, regulators or external parties.

·        Contribute to privacy-related reporting for senior leadership, risk committees, or the board, as applicable.
