JOB DESCRIPTION

The Atlanta office of Alston & Bird is seeking a pricing analyst. This position, under the direction of the Director of Pricing & Project Management and pricing managers, will perform a variety of duties including: (1) analyzing historical billing data and financial metrics to develop profitable pricing strategies, (2) assisting with the development and implementation of Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs), (3) supporting the firm’s annual rate-setting process and market trend analysis, and (4) monitoring the financial performance of active matters to ensure alignment with firm goals.

RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO

  • Pricing Models & Strategy: Develop and model complex pricing scenarios (e.g., fixed fees, capped fees) to support client proposals, maximizing profitability while staying competitive.

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze historical matter data, utilization rates, and realization rates to provide insights for strategic rate setting.

  • RFP Support: Review and complete financial sections of RFPs, draft fee-related language, and forecast revenue/cost assumptions.

  • Budgeting & Monitoring: Collaborate with attorneys to establish budgets, monitor active engagements against these budgets, and report on performance to management.

  • Market Intelligence: Monitor legal industry pricing trends, conduct benchmarking against competitors, and provide recommendations to firm leadership.

SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively liaise between attorneys and management.

  • A strong command of the English language.

  • Ability to work independently and meet internal and external deadlines.

  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately when preparing time-sensitive financial models.

  • Organizational skills for prioritizing a high volume of pricing requests and RFP deadlines.

  • The ability to effectively handle online meetings and communication with established Firm etiquette and professionalism.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 2–5+ years of relevant experience in financial modeling, data analysis, or pricing.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, modeling, and data manipulation).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite products.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment.

  • Experience with data visualization tools (such as Power BI or Tableau);

  • Familiarity with SQL databases and cube environments.

  • Experience with legal-specific financial systems (e.g., Aderant Expert, Elite 3E);

  • Understanding of Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs) and law firm profitability metrics.
