Job Responsibilities
-Characterize G protein-coupled receptors by calcium fluorescence/bioluminescence and/or cAMP measurements and other in vitro (pharmacology, histochemistry) and in vivo assays (feeding analysis, RNAi).
-Localize neuropeptides or receptors and analyze tissues by immunohistochemistry.
-Endocrinological studies (diuresis, muscle contraction) will be performed with arthropod tissues in vitro and in vivo.
-May require a combination of: toxicological bioassays, mammalian cell culture (experience desirable), and use of robots for high-throughput screens (HTS) (can train here).
-Expected to work with and help train graduate and undergraduate students and supervise student workers as needed.
Required Education:
-Ph.D. in Molecular biology/ biochemistry/cell biology or related field.
Preferred Experience:
-Arthropod neurobiology and physiology, and experience with ticks, mosquitoes and/or flies, ants is highly desirable.
-Experience in insect or tick molecular biology/ biochemistry/cell biology.
-Candidates without previous publications in peer-reviewed journals may not be considered. Data must be analyzed statistically so knowledge of statistics is required.
Required Skills:
-Independence of thought, timely performance of experiments and clear written reports, following the pace of a laboratory that is federally funded.
-Responsible for the timely preparation and submission of peer-reviewed publications.
-Experience with qRT-PCR (RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis and qRT-PCR experimentation and data analysis).
-Proficient in spoken and written English.
Other Requirements:
-Periodic travel to South Texas is required. Candidates must possess the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle within the United States.
