Position Description: Conduct research and development as a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Integrated Systems Engineering, with a strong emphasis on microstructure analysis and Multiphysics Computational modeling of metal alloys using an Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) approach.
Responsibilities:
60% Perform research on the microstructural evolution of metal alloys during thermomechanical processing and develop computational models to predict mechanical properties, their evolution, and formability. Through August 2026, contribute to the DOE ARDAP research project by evaluating the microstructural features of high-purity Nb sheets and developing a computational framework to predict their mechanical properties for stamping processes. Conduct research under the Accuride project to examine microstructural evolution during thermomechanical processing and predict the resulting mechanical properties.
20% Coordinate experimental testing and related procedures and organize and manage research projects.
20% Prepare technical reports, scholarly publications, and presentations to communicate research findings. Assist in mentoring student employees and participate in research group and unit meetings.
Qualifications:
Education: Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Integrated Systems Engineering with a materials or manufacturing focus, or a closely related field.
Required: A Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Integrated Systems Engineering with a materials or manufacturing focus, or a closely related field is required. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in the microstructural evolution of metal alloys during thermomechanical processing and experience developing computational models to predict mechanical properties and their evolution. Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills, are required to engage effectively with diverse students and stakeholders. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to a culture of innovation and excellence.
Desired: Familiarity with Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME)-based approaches, processstructure-property relationship analysis, and AI-based modeling for materials design and performance prediction. Self-motivated and able to work in a team with minimal supervision.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
