Amentum is looking for a Plumber to join our #pecan team.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Plumber is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plumbing systems, fixtures, and equipment in facilities such as water distribution, sanitary systems, piping, and related infrastructure. The role requires a deep understanding of plumbing codes and standards, the ability to interpret blueprints and schematics, and expertise in using plumbing tools and equipment. The Plumber ensures all activities are completed in compliance with safety standards and under the direction of a Master Plumber or supervisor. Primary responsibilities include:

  • System Installation & Repairs:
    • Install, repair, and replace water, sewage, and drainage systems, including pipes, valves, fittings, and fixtures, such as sinks, toilets, showers, and dishwashers.
    • Assemble, install, and maintain heating systems, water heaters, backflow prevention devices, and pressure regulators.
    • Perform soldering, threading, brazing, and welding of pipes and fittings as needed.
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
    • Diagnose and identify plumbing issues, such as leaks, clogs, water pressure problems, and equipment malfunctions.
    • Use testing equipment, pressure gauges, and leak detection tools to analyze system performance and ensure proper functionality.
  • Preventative Maintenance:
    • Perform routine maintenance to ensure plumbing systems, pipes, and fixtures operate efficiently and to prevent breakdowns.
    • Inspect building plumbing systems and ensure compliance with National and Local Plumbing Codes.
  • Blueprint & Spec Interpretation:
    • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and building plans to determine placement and sizing of pipes, fixtures, and equipment.
    • Apply engineering specifications to meet system requirements during new installations or repairs.
  • Code Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure all work complies with national, state, and local plumbing codes, as well as organizational standards.
    • Follow safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, when working with equipment and pressurized systems.
  • Tools & Equipment Use:
    • Operate and maintain hand and power tools required for plumbing tasks, such as pipe cutters, threaders, snakes, augers, hydro-jets, and torches.
    • Use advanced plumbing equipment, such as sewer cameras, line locating devices, and press-fitting tools, as necessary.
  • Collaboration & Direction:
    • Work under the direction of a Master Plumber or supervisor to complete assigned tasks efficiently.
    • Collaborate with other trades and contractors to coordinate system installations, repairs, or maintenance activities.
  • Documentation & Recordkeeping:
    • Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, inspections, and parts usage.
    • Update diagrams, maps, and system blueprints to reflect modifications and repairs.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to:

  • Water systems operating under pressure, work in wet or humid conditions, and exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures in plumbing system environments.
  • Hazardous materials, confined spaces, and elevated work environments requiring PPE compliance.
  • Loud noise levels and occasional exposure to dust, chemicals, or sewer odors.

The position requires:

  • Strength and stamina to lift and carry plumbing tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crawling, crouching, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for the accurate cutting, threading, and welding of pipes and components.
  • Vision abilities such as close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and color vision to inspect systems and read blueprints.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Journeyman-level plumbing certification or state-recognized license, required.
  • Five (5) or more years of plumbing experience in the trade, including service and maintenance.
  • Thorough knowledge of plumbing systems, piping, backflow prevention, and fixtures, as well as associated controls and equipment.
  • In-depth understanding of National and Local Plumbing Codes to ensure installations meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools required for plumbing work.
  • Familiarity with basic mathematical functions to calculate pipe lengths, angles, flow rates, and system capacities.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, work orders, and technical instructions.

Clearance Required (If Applicable):

  • TS/SCI with Poly

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Years of Experience:

  • Five (5) or more years of plumbing experience in commercial or industrial systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair.

Required Certifications:

  • Journeyman Plumber License or equivalent state certification.
  • Backflow Prevention Certification (if applicable).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master Plumber Certification.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or specialized training program in plumbing.
  • Experience working in mission-critical or industrial environments such as government facilities, hospitals, or large-scale commercial buildings.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and advanced plumbing controls.
  • Advanced knowledge or certifications in energy-efficient systems or water conservation technologies.

       

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:

This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.

       

Compensation Details:

$60,000 to $110,000
