About the opportunity

The Shepparton Youth Residential Rehabilitation program supports young people aged 16 to 24 who are experiencing, or at risk of, mental health challenges. It offers a safe and supportive residential environment where young people can strengthen their wellbeing, build everyday skills, and move toward greater independence.

As a Peer Recovery Worker, you’ll draw on your own lived experience to walk alongside young people on their recovery journey. You’ll provide one-on-one and group-based peer support, helping confidence building, practical skills development and connection with the supports that matter to them. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team that, together, aim to provide consistent and person-centred support to those in our care.

About you

You feel comfortable drawing on your own lived experience of mental health challenges to support others. You value connection, bring empathy to your work and are motivated to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.

You work well as part of a team and are open to different perspectives are able to build trust with young people, support them to develop skills for everyday living and contribute to a safe and respectful environment where they feel a sense of belonging.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Personal experience of mental distress and accessing and navigating healthcare services, including mental health services and a willingness to draw upon your experiences and recovery journey to inform your work
• Relevant qualifications (generally Certificate IV or above in fields such as Community Services, Peer Work or Mental Health) OR commensurate experience (1+ years) required to work in a support role for people with a mental illness OR Intentional Peer Support training OR the ability to demonstrate study toward these qualifications
• Current valid Driver's License and the ability to undertake some travel
• Evidence of right to work in Australia
• Satisfactory National Police Check, Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to undertake
• NDIS Worker Orientation module certificate – free online course
