Payroll Specialist (18-Month Contract)

Our Canadian operation, Canaccord Genuity Corp., is currently looking a motivated individual with strong payroll knowledge, and a quick learner with excellent organizational skills to join our Canadian Payroll Team on a 18-month contract basis to cover maternity leave. This position reports directly to the Manager, Payroll.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely and collaboratively with other members of the Payroll, Benefits and HR teams.
  • Process most if not all of time tracking entries on a pay period basis. Enter/Upload EIBs and maintain employee data and transactions in payroll system. (Include entering tax elections, direct deposit changes, cost allocation changes, taxable benefits – tuition, parking, gym, other benefits related charges, termination payments, vacation payments and ad hoc salary/wages/bonus related payments-hourly & overtime and other payments)
  • Process staff events (new hire, rehire, departures, leaves and other change organization events).
  • Runs full-cycle semi-monthly payroll for all pay groups
  • Responds to all stakeholders regarding Payroll-related inquiries about their pay.
  • Prepares and delivers various reports or spreadsheets as required.
  • Creates ROE, Garnishment, and Prepares CRA remittances.
  • Assist Senior Payroll Accountant with journal entries, cheques, deposits and basic account reconciliation and cost reporting.  
  • Assist the whole Payroll team during December – February to meet deadlines regarding tax forms distribution and deliveries (includes distribution of T4/RL-1/T2200)
  • Performs ad hoc tasks as needed, likely requested from CGC Controller & Manager, Payroll
  • Assist with documentation of new processes and system testing as needed.
  • Adheres to company policies and ensures company is following best practices in Payroll and is in compliance with all required payroll legislation and regulations.
  • Calculate Imputed Interest – Forgivable Loans

Skills & Qualifications

  • PCP or PCP Candidate designation or similar certifications such as Payroll/Accounting Diploma
  • 2-5 years of experience in Payroll/Accounting or possess basic understanding of payroll and payment processing and able to apply studies and experience to the position at hand.
  • Intermediate to Proficient in MS Office Applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills, positive demeanor, forward thinking.
  • Proven ability to collaborate in a team environment and able to work independently – minimal supervision.
  • Eager to learn, Quick learner, adaptable to changes in fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Problem solver, detail oriented, excellent in prioritizing/time management and organize.
  • Self-Motivated and results driven, with proactive mentality and initiative approach to work.
  • Flexible to work required hours at peak times when necessary.
