The Challenge đź§©

 We are looking for a Payment Fraud Specialist to join our Trust & Safety team, reporting directly to the Trust & Safety Manager.

In this role, you will protect Wallapop’s platform by detecting, preventing, and mitigating fraudulent activity—ensuring a safe and trustworthy experience for all users. You’ll go beyond investigation by designing proactive, data-driven fraud prevention strategies in collaboration with Product, Operations, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams.

What You Will Do đꑇ

  • Prevent and mitigate fraud – Monitor emerging fraud trends, identify abuse patterns, and design proactive measures to reduce risk while maintaining a seamless user experience.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally – Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to enhance fraud detection tools, improve automation, and ensure new features are fraud-resilient.

  • Leverage data for insights – Analyze fraud patterns and key metrics, identify trends, and propose data-backed improvements to detection models and workflows.

  • Investigate and manage risk – Conduct in-depth investigations into high-risk cases, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend long-term process or product improvements.

  • Share knowledge and mentor – Support teammates by sharing best practices, training materials, and fostering a strong fraud prevention culture within Trust & Safety.

  • Contribute to Trust & Safety initiatives – Support broader platform integrity efforts, adapt to evolving risks, and contribute to security, compliance, and moderation improvements.

Key Deliverables:
Fraud trend reports, optimized workflows, enhanced detection features, fraud metrics dashboards, and evidence of team knowledge-sharing and capability building.

What We’re Looking For đź”Ž

  • Fraud prevention and risk management experience – Proven experience identifying and mitigating payment or platform fraud, ideally in marketplaces, fintech, or e-commerce.

  • Analytical and data-driven mindset – Strong proficiency with Excel (or BI tools) to identify trends, assess risks, and inform decision-making.

  • Experience with fraud detection tools and workflows – Familiar with automated detection systems, case management tools, and investigation processes.

  • Strong collaboration skills – Able to build effective relationships across Product, Engineering, and Operations.

  • Strategic thinker – Able to connect fraud insights to broader business goals and user experience.

  • Decisive and organized – Skilled in prioritizing tasks, making sound judgments, and managing complex, high-impact issues.

  • Proactive and adaptable – Comfortable in fast-changing environments, anticipating and responding quickly to emerging threats.

  • Fluent in English – Spanish is a plus.

 

Do note that all our jobs are 📍 Barcelona based. We follow a hybrid model where flexibility rules. We commit to a minimum of 6 days per month in the office. Each team self-organizes to decide on cadence and in-person/remote rituals.

Task / Case Study Submission / Take-home test - you will be assigned a task to submit within 5 days where you will be able to showcase your expertise / technical skills required for the role.

Expertise Interview - run by the hiring team, focus on the required core skills and the ability to deliver in a given context. This usually takes 60-90 minutes.

Stakeholder Interview - run by relevant stakeholders reflecting the reality of the context of the role, focus on the ability to collaborate & deliver in a cross-functional set-up. This usually takes 60 minutes.

Culture Interview - run by culture interviewers, focus on adherence to Wallapop's purpose and business proposition. This usually takes 60 minutes. 

Offer - should you be the right candidate, your offer will be discussed over a call with talent acquisition and will then be confirmed in writing.
