The Insurance Transactional & Regulatory paralegal is assigned to specific matters, clients, projects and/or attorneys and utilizes the knowledge within the specialized area to perform legal research, draft documents and technical procedures, and provide direct assistance with a variety of duties concerning insurance regulatory, compliance, and corporate maintenance. There is an annual billing component to this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with insurance regulatory and corporate matters, including compliance filings, producer and insurance company licensing, rates, and forms filings, and researching and digesting insurance regulations and legislation.
Spend substantial time and effort specifically on surplus lines insurance matters.
Assist with the identification and summarizing of relevant issues; continually monitor issues and update attorneys, as appropriate.
Prepare and follow through on filings with regulatory agencies (including required follow-up issues, requests, etc.).
Assist with responding to regulatory inquiries, licensing requests, and business transactions.
Research application and regulatory filing requirements for insurance companies, producers, and intermediaries.
Communicate directly with state insurance regulators.
Perform all assignments in strict compliance with ethical guidelines governing the practice of law.
Receive and follow complex instructions.
Take appropriate action to monitor and meet deadlines.
Establish priorities and work concurrently on a variety of projects.
Track and record client-billable time and non-billable hours, meeting minimum billable hour requirements.
Responsible for maintaining and prioritizing work daily and communicate if unable to meet daily responsibilities.
This position has an annual billing requirement of 1500 hours.

Willingness and ability to accept changing assignments and priorities.
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to use initiative in accomplishing routine assignments with minimum supervision.
Must be available to work overtime when needed and requested.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, or any combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Paralegal Certificate preferred.
Minimum of five (5) experience, specifically in Insurance Transactional & Regulatory
Specific experience in excess and surplus lines insurance preferred.
Experience in computer processing and research tools, such as Westlaw, LexisNexis and/or NILS.
Experience with database file management systems, such as iManage and a records management system.
