L.L.Bean is searching for Outdoor Discovery Program Guide Apprentice to join their team.

Must have availability: Mid May-September

POSITION PURPOSE:To learn and develop their technical and professional skills as instructors.  

Position description: 

Our team of ODP Instructors and Guides is looking for enthusiastic and driven individuals to join us to develop the practical skills and aptitude necessary to become a Registered Maine Guide! Throughout our season, Guide Apprentices must complete relevant in-house training, collaborate with a mentor Guide on their technical and teaching skills and hone their outdoor teaching skills with customers in a variety of settings. A large portion of this work will involve working with youths in our summer camp programming. We are looking for candidates who are motivated and excited to work towards earning their Maine Guide’s license. Successful apprentices will be flexible, have good time management skills, respond well to feedback and coaching, open to collaboration, and ultimately feel prepared and confident to take their Maine Guide exam. This position is designed to last for no more than two years, with the intention of being promoted to a guide or instructor when requirements are met.

  • Assume additional related duties and responsibilities as assigned due to business needs.  

  • After 2 years (possibly sooner) apprentice will move to instructor position once guide license is obtained 

 

Outdoor Discovery Programs Goals: 

  • Promote new outdoor enthusiasts through quality outdoor experiences.  

  • Inspire people to engage in new outdoor activities.  

  • Create a sense of belonging while participating in outdoor activities. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Must have 30 days of availability to work a flexible schedule including days, weekends, and some evenings.  

  • Ability to maintain a high level of enthusiasm, motivation, and positive attitude.  

  • Able to manage time and possess personal organizational skills.  

  • Must hold a valid CPR & First Aid certification.

Education Level: High School or GED
